I just don't know what to do as I'm in pain nearly every day around the lower back (sacral separated during pregnancy) and its making everything so hard , from lifting dd2 out of the cot to changing her, I have to do it on the sofa during the day ,as going up and down the stairs to her matt hurts everything. I'm exhausted and low from it. I'm on an NHS waiting list for physio but it could be weeks yet.

Id have acupuncture , but I get needle shock , not from phobia , but a strong reaction to the needle being moved. Also cant really spend the money regularly right now. Id love to go for the Bowen technique , but again its the cost each week and also logistic's of childcare.

Ive been told yoga / Pilate's will help , but that I should not attempt it until this back problem has healed.

In the meantime I don't quite know what to do, paracetamol does nothing at all and I cant take nurofen due to feeding. Also I cant take meds every day for it.

get some heat pads they should afford you some relief

nurofen make them (they don't have nurofen in them!) they are like giant plasters and when youstick them on they warm up and are brilliant

Also arnica gel has been show to have similar pain relieving properties to ibuprofen gel

are they good those ? Are those the ones on the tv advert ?

Just asked dh to go to boots in town , but hes gone a bit loopy as he got me the silicone nursing jel things and I hardly used them, he also got me the ones for your fanjo and hardly used them , so hes less than impressed. He said cant I use my preggy belt thing and sit the fanjo pads inn there !!!!! , spose he has a point but.................

lol at the fanjo pad swinging both ways

melsy, if there's an osteopath in your area give it a go, you should only need 2/3 treatments so it wouldn't be a regular expense and they can help enormously

melsy · 16/11/2006 11:40

Realy not keen on osteopath , although hes gorge man!! i ended up in a right state after a treatment a couple of years back. My nervous system went mad for weeks. All the clicking makes me go on edge.

ooh weird deja vous moment , and you reply to this all upset for me being dismissive , sorry in advance of preminition !!!

mad i am

OP posts:
PinkTinsel · 16/11/2006 13:04

why would i be mad you loon?! thats not being dismissive, thats having a perfectly valid reason for not wanting to go!

for what it's worth it freaked my dad out too but he was just so relieved to be out of pain i think he was beyond caring, lol

i'd definitely recommend a heat pad of some kind though, those nuerofen pones are expensive (although they look lovely) but if you just use a scarf or bandage to tie a normal heat pad (or fanjo pad!)to you it should help.

Mels love, just checking on ya. Hows the pain today? Could you take Codydramol? I find they cure me of most pains, when i had my m/c they kept me dosed up on them and it really helped the labour pains....just thinking if it eases that pain might help you out (temporarily of course.)

If not then i 2nd Pink, go to the osteopath and get it sorted....

melsy · 18/11/2006 11:25

awwww thank for checking up on me both.

Still in pain , using hot water bottle which is soothing & been trying to lay down more a bit during day to rest that area.

I cant take codrydamol , major intollarance to it.

Wondering if its linked with my emotional state right now hmm.

Make sure you always roll onto your side before getting out of bed - never sit straight up IYSWIM. Also, put a plastic bag or similar on carseat (if you drive) so you can turn your whole body sideways to put your legs out the door - that helps to take the strain off your back. Do you have a back support / corset type thing to hold everything together? Also, sleep on top of a folded duvet for extra padding - that can help to ease the pain. So sorry you are suffering - it is awful. Can't think of anything else right now, except maybe massage, but you would need clearance from your doctor as therapist would need to know exactly what was going on before giving treatment.

aww thanks 3littleforgs, I do have the belt thing from pregnancy , possibly to big now !!! Seems I have to still treat body the way I did when pregnant, but with no bump now !!!!

Im having period pains today so wondering if its alead up due to that ,although 50% Bf so still not bleedng , may be a big change in hormones.
