chicken pox quick help needed.......

DD (5) has a nasty bout of chicken pox. She has spots/blisters inside the folds of her front bottom and it is driving her mad. I'm giving her Calpol, Piriton and I'm using aqueous calamine on her skin. I've put on a little metanium as well.

Does anyone know if she needs something from the doctor for her bottom or if what I'm currently doing is the best I can do?

She can't settle and is crying and talking absolute rubbish as she is so tired.

I think you're doing all you can. Poor little mite - hopefully she'll drop off to sleep through sheer exhaustion soon and every day will get better.

From memory the doc won't give you anything special for her bottom. You're already using all the best creams.

Agree with Emmatom - poor little thing - hope she gets better soon.

Thanks for that emmatom, hopefully tomorrow will see a change. Ta.

Been through this with DD - found that the best relief was from sitting in a bath with bicarb in it. you need a cupful or so - so need a big box of it that you can get from Boots etc. Reduces the inflammation levels so there is less itching. Worked with DS to when he was refusing calamine lotion......
Both of them used to have mulitple dips per day if needed.
HTH and sympathies too. Is a horrid time for all concerned.

Hello Marspants

I agree re eurax, found lotion better than cream although not sure it can be used on genitalia. Best thing for my dd who has in same place was loads of baths , I put loads of porridge oats in old sock and stick this in warm bath, makes it all milky- its fantastic for itching, and i used sodium bicarb too.nurofen was better for my dd than calpol as anti inflammatory properties.Really sympathise its so awful, oh if any look like they are getting infected use neat tea tree oil on spot -antibacterial- worked overnight on dd when gp would have preferred to give her antibiotics for 7 days!

just a quickie to say thank you for all your wonderful tips! (Eurax excellent, didn't know about this one) She is a bit better today and just DT2 to complete his dose and we will be a POX FREE HOUSE!! Thanks again. Off to make porridge in the bath.......
