I think he's probably got worms and have given him a dose of that worm stuff whatever it's called, but would calpol/ ibuprofen help soothe him, or doesn't it work for itching?

I shouldn't think it would hurt to give him some anyway.

PandaG · 14/11/2006 19:46

I'd dose him, may help calm him and help him sleep, won't do him any harm either.

MerlinsBeard · 14/11/2006 19:46

DS has done thios a few times (3.7 yo) and its because hes not wiped properly. If hes still irritable aferwards i use sudocrem

I agree - threadworms. Good luck, it is hell I know. If you get screaming later on, put him in the bath it might drown the buggers.

I remember reading on another thread about TW that Piriton syrup can help the itching, and is slightly sedative so helps them sleep too.

Poor lad, hope the worm stuff (Ovex? Vermox?) works fast.

Oh, also read that a generous smear of Vaseline around the anus protects to some extent from the gunge around their eggs - which I think is what the irritating agent is.

WhizzBangCaligula · 14/11/2006 21:04

Ooh that's useful. I was looking for germolene thinking it might anaesthetise it a bit but vaseline eh?

Bloody things. Why do they exist.

Is the pain worse when you've taken that vermox stuff btw?

Um, again....just going by what I've read rather than experienced (got totally and utterly paranoid about TW a few weeks ago when dd had itchy bits in her bath). But.
Apparently they all know they're going to snuff it and come roaring out to lay eggs en masse after Vermox/Ovex - so yes, you can have one night of worse before you get better.

Not sure the Vaseline will help the itch, but it might prevent it getting any worse if/when tonights desperate dying crop come out. Why does the world need threadworms?!??
