Verrucca treatment

Currently using Bazooka for a verucca/wart on the side of 5yr olds toe. Peeling the white stuff off next day causes her to scream the house down. Does it sound as though I am doing it wrong?

I have tried looking for an alternative but other than the freezing they all look the same - salycilic acid based/peel away after 24hrs.

Has anyone tried the home frezing products like wartner or the new Scholl one?
Are there any other treatments which don't have to be peeled like this?

Yes, I have used wartner on my DS it was fab, I only had to use one application and it was gone in less than 10 days. I had used some gel stuff from the docs but it didn't work - i would really recommend it.

VoodooBanana · 15/11/2006 13:52

wartner is expensive, but it is convenient, however it didnt work on me!

I am currently treating dd1 with salatac gel from the gp but it isn't doing too much.

I had my first verucca seven years ago, followed by loads more and warts on the hands!
I tried everything to get rid of them. Bazooka did nothing, freezing is VERY painful and I wouldn't recommend it for a 5yr old. I am also left with a scar the size of a 5p on the side of my hand from one freeze (hurt so much and took months to heal!)
Wartner is also very painful, have not tried the scholl one.

anyway, I gave up and left them to it and in the last couple of months they have strangely started to disappear on their own .......but has taken 7 years!

Take a green banana skin, cut small bit, tape over verucca with a plaster (put banana skin in fridge in sealed bag and use same one daily) and change bit over foot every 12 hours if poss, 24 hours if you're lazy. Works like a treat - a month tops. Sorted my 'through preg, bf and beyond' verucca in 3 weeks.

ruty · 15/11/2006 19:12

wow 3senough i'm going to try that on a verruca i've had for ages, and if it works, I'll love you forever!

ruty · 15/11/2006 19:13

my verrucca is also 'thru pregnancy,bf and beyond!'

ParanoidAndroid · 15/11/2006 19:17

We also use the banana trick except I first dab the verucca with a bit of tea tree oil, then use the banana skin. I just use micropore tape to stick it to the toe or wherever overnight, then take it off during the day, using a new bit of banana skin each night. It works like a treat!

DS' podiatrist told me that it's pointless, expensive and in some cases as you say, painful, using the chemical stuff, so either paint clear nail varnish over it and leave it and the body will deal with it in time, or use banana skin.

Hope this helps.

Dd had a cluster of awful veruccas. We paid to see a chiropodist who told us to leave them alone. He also told us that veruccas can take up to ten years to go away if left untreated .

We tried Bazooka and it didnt work.

The thing that shifted them was Scholl verucca plasters. They are little sticky dots.Painless and efficient. Took about 8 weeks.

Btw once you have had veruccas you are immune. Its a bit like chickenpox ,you cant get it again.

ruty · 15/11/2006 19:22

eh? Surely you can? I had one years ago and had a series of painful treatments at a chiropodist to get it removed, and now i have two more, picked up from the gym methinks.

Not sure about the immune bit? The kids have had veruccas on and off for about 5 years now, and I've caught one this year after a 20-something year gap.

i'm more worried about ds catching mine actually - going swimming, bathing and stuff. Wear flip flops never bare feet. Bit of a head ache.

SlightlyMadScientist · 15/11/2006 22:53

I saw those Scholl plasters today - but I don't this they will stick to where the verruca is with the square plaster pictured on the box(on the side of one of her middle toes). Could I hold the dot in place with a normal plaster?

Might try the banana - I guess I have nothing to loose. Again worried about it staying put cos it is quaite an awkward place.
