I know this is really minor, but I have a real horror of dentists and all their doings! About 7 months ago, one of my filled molars broke (I nearly swallowed it!) the dentist put a temporary filling in and said it would have to be crowned.
As DS2 was due in about 6 weeks, I just couldn't face it then and have only just been this morning. She has filled it and done whatever it is they do to prepare the tooth, and I go back in 10 days for the crown fitting, once its been made.
In the meantime, she has put this temporary crown on, great big ugly silver thing it is!
Anyway, I have just been able to feel my mouth enuf to eat a bit of pasta but I can't chew properly! The temporary crown is slightly higher than my other teeth so when I chew, only that tooth makes contact with the top teeth; so I have to chew on the crowned tooth only, or sort of suck on my food...
If thats normal and will be sorted when I get the proper crown, I am quite happy to live with it for 10 days rather than go back - I just want to be sure its not going to cause some horrible problem requiring more torture

Thanks

Am pretty sure it won't hurt you to leave it for 10 days... sometimes dentists get so-called permanent fillings wrong in the same kind ofway and they you go back and they just have to shave it down for you.

thanks Zebra, was getting myself in a right state thinking I might have to go back and have the temporary crown replaced or something equally hideous
B***d dentists

That's totally normal. I have 3 crowns and with all three (1 done in usa, 2 in uk), I had ill fitting, uncomfortable, ugly, annoying temporary crowns for the week while they are making the real thing. In fact with all 3 they fell out before I was due back to the dentist and then it was pain pain pain to eat anything. It's not really worth going back to the dentist though as they will just temporarily glue it back on (you could do this yourself with the stuff used for sticking dentures. However, when the final crown is fitted it should fit perfectly and be ground/smoothed down to fit your mouth perfectly. If it isn't, don't settle for something less. Once the final crown is in, the pain will go away within a day or so.

oh thanks sofia, thats such a relief, I thought I was going to have to learn to chew again or have it re-done - that impression stuff they stick in your mouth is ghastly, I thought I was going to retch up my appendix
