not personally but my cousin did,. generally the mole grew in size and also turned a darker colour then it had originally been. She made an appt. with her doctor who referred her onto a clinic to have it removed as it was on her foot. She had that one removed and didnt think anything more of it then got a phone call 3 days later from the hospital telling her that she had to go in the following day to see a consultant and also to check if she had any other moles that would need checking out, She had to have a further 4 moles removed including one on her leg where they had to cut quite deeply into her leg and she was on crutched for a couple of weeks. If you have noticed any changes in a mole PLEASE PLEASE go and get it checked out straight away it was a really scary time waiting for the doctor to give her the all clear.

I had one on my arm, i got it checked out as it went very black in the middle and itched something chronic. They took a look at it at the dermatology place and decided there and then to whip it off. They then checked out a couple on my back, but they were ok. its left me with a slight scar on my forearm.
if you are worried about one then get it seen to

Hmmm. Thanks for your replies.

I am v.moley - have had 2 removed at the doctor's and opthalmogist's requests.

I have one on my calf, quite small and raised that I think has stayed the same shape and colour.

It's just that sometimes it itches and aches (but am really wondering if this is my imagination as I already had 2 removed - but I'm not like this with any of my other moles).

The thing is, I just know that if I mention it to the docs they will whip it off as a matter of course.

I recently went to the Dr's as a mole had raised and eventually turned into a black scab. It fell off and has gone back to being a mole. The Dr said if it hadn't gone back to normal within a month, he would cut it off. I have a week left of the month, but it's totally gone back.

My sister had melanoma about 16 yrs ago. She had a little 'spot' on her arm which was pale in colour, not at all the usual mole symptoms. She only went to the dr because it kept bleeding. Dr was pretty confident it was nothing but the test came back as melanoma. She had a wider area removed and a few years later had some lymph nodes removed as well. Since then, some 13yrs, she's been completely well.

I had one on my breast when I was about 19 that wasn't called cancerous but something that means if it was left alone, it would turn into it (is it pre-cancerous or something?)

it was a very strange colour - sort of salmon pink and bumpy

ever since then I've been quite paranoid - in S Africa they took it v seriously - last time I went to the doc here (few years ago) about what I thought I was a problem mole, he sent me away tutting saying if only parents spent more time worrying about the MMR than perfectly normal moles, his job would be a hellavu lot easier!!

Just go and insist that it is checked out properly if you are worried. Also, every now and then, hospitals hold free dermatology clinics where you can get them checked out (think they did this in skin cancer awareness week last year). hth
