help, I am so scared for my LO, she is a month old and I know I shall be requested to take her to have her first injections in a months time, but I'm dreading it.

I am so worried about any adverse reactions hurting her, and she is just so small, I cant face the prospect of her being hurt.

My OH is adament that she'll be having all her jabs when the DR says so, but he wont be the one taking her, or dealing with her, and no one at the doctors can tell me what to expect afterwards, if hse;ll be poorly or not, and I dont think I have any rights, please help, it makes me weep just thinking about it.

Emzickle I felt exactly the same for all of my three when it came to their jabs but it is important to get them done and she will be fine. You can gie her some calpol before you go if you prefer as she may be a bit grizzly/bit of a temp after - on the other hand she may have no reaction at all.

The reason they have a 'reaction' is because the vaccination puts a tiny tiny amount of the virus into their system so that they then become immune to it. I think my dd1 and ds both had a lump on their thigh a couple of days after but were both fine. DD2 had nothing at all.
Also it may take a couple of days for their system to 'react' so don't panic if she's fine and then grizzly a few days later.

I hope that helps you a little.... you can also have a chat with the nurse when you go in, she will be able to tell you in detail exactly what happens/what to expect.

is there a friend who can go with to hold your hand?

IMO..the sting of the jab is better than the possibility of becoming seriously ill....

my LO has had all her jabs...bit hot after the pneummocal one, but not an adverse reaction to her 1st, 2nd 3rd or MMR...

a 2.5 ml dose of calpol before you go might help....

HTH!

and of course it is natural to not want to hurt your LO>..but it is all for the greater good for her health IMO>..

is your HV sympathetic?

emzickle · 13/11/2006 15:58

no, my HV just quizes me about PND and how "stable" my "union" is with my OH, as Im 19 years old, she assumes that Im about to run go out on a bender and leave Lola in safeways or some thing.

I def think you will find the practice nurse a lot more sympathetic - she should be more than happy to go through it all with you beforehand.
