dd1 had an asthma attack in the school playground before school started. 8 puffs of inhaler at school had no effect. one of the secretaries dropped us home (thank you!!), so tried another 2 puffs whilst i tried to get hold of gp surgery. no luck. so get dh carer to stay on here with dd2+3, whilst we go to the surgery. rushed straight through, and put on nebuliser. dd1 still feels tight chested. so has come home, but is on steroid tabs and have to go straight to a+e to get admitted if it starts up again. for an overnight stay. so now have to put everyone on standby to get dh and the otgher 2 looked after overnight if she needs to go back in.

Does anyone out there have a child diagnosed with viral induced wheeze?. My 3 year old is up and down like a yo-yo with wheezy chest problems and I need a way to control it so we are not up at A and E every 5 minutes. I have been to GP when I know he needs a nebuliser, only to be given prescription for more inhalers and needless to say end up in A and E in the early hours the same day.

We are due to go to GP later today as he was up at Newdoc last night and I want to sort this once and for all.

DS2 had/has this (he's 5 now) and TBH the only thing that kept us out of A&E was a home nebuliser. We bought it when we lived abroad, though, and I don't know whether they are recommended here. There was a thread not that long ago about it - if you search for 'nebuliser' you'll find it (sorry, haven't got time to look for the link now).

Thanks everyone.

The GP has referred to paediatrician as I asked, as I am not happy about hos this is being managed. He has seen asthma nurse, but that was a waste of time. A home nebuliser was actually mentioned by the GP, so it is possible.

The trouble I have is that my other half does not believe in the inhalers ( I don't like them either, but if they do the trick?) and he thinks the answer is holidays in a hot country. Bearing in mind our son was ill 2 days into a holiday in France during the heatwave, I think his thinking is most peculiar.

I will let you know how we get on.
