Hi

How does Undiagnosed PND present itself and how do you know you've got it?

TIA

Have a look at Depression Symptoms
Symptoms for PND similar to Depression.
Try talking to your GP/HV if you're worried

This is the 'test' that HV's usually use to diagnose PND - here

You need to scroll down the page to access it. If you do it, and score highly, you could give your GP/HV the test as a starting point for discussion? HTH

Thanks Laura.
couldn't remember where to find Edinburgh scale!

Paddlechick, ignore my link and go straight to Laura's

Do you think you are depressed? that is a good place to start....

tearful, tired, not sleeping, sleeping to much, weight gain or loss in a short space of time, not coping, feeling overwhelmed, not looking forward to anything, irritable etc...

a lot of these symptoms are easily confused with being tired & overwhelmed with a young baby

if these feelings persist and get worse, then it is likely to be PND , speak to Doc, or HV...

Paddlechick666 · 13/11/2006 21:17

thanks ladies.

i'm really not sure tbh, i don't think i am but i do have some of those symptoms.

however, i am also under a lot of stress personally and at work so i think this is a contributory factor.

my dd is 12 months and i've been coping on my own for much of that year hence my question about delayed PND.

at what point does a diagnosis become "ordinary" depression over PND.

if a magic wand was waved and all my other stresses were resolved i think all my sleeping/crying/irritability symptoms would go.

does that mean i'm not suffering from depression? how do i stop myself from just feeling so out of control and about to burst into tears any second?!

paddlechick hi if you have a reactive depression it doesn't make much difference whether it is labelled PND or not..

you've had a really tough time so no wonder you feel low sometimes.

doctors tend to look at this pragmatically. if you feel you're struggling to cope at times then ADs may help and counselling certainly would.

to me it always sounds like you cope wonderfully but that doesn't mean you might not need some help yourself...

hi RG

thanks.

on the whole i am okay, there are times i struggle tho.

i guess it'll pass, same as everything always does!
