Anyone had chickenpox as an adult?

I had it 6 years ago and I was talking to a guy the other day who said that after having it as an adult he became nervy. The GP told him it can affect your nerves when you get it as an adult. I started having panic attacks for no reason (ok now though ) and it's made me wonder if it could be connected? Has anyone else had it later in life and noticed funny symptoms?

I have serious nervousness problems and I had it in my late 20's

I had it when I was about 20 and did not notice that. I can't really understand it causing an emotional effect.

I know that you are more likely to get complication if you get it as an adult. The most common side effects in adults is pneumonia

I had it in my 30's and it was nasty but I didn't suffer any nervous symptoms - worth checking with your gp

I had it at 26, whilst 29 weeks pregnant, didn't notice any long-term nerve problems although was obviously pretty stressed at the time.

I had it at 16 - right in the middle of my 'O'-levels!

Yep - 26 - and felt like crap for 6 months afterwards. Sorry

gingernut · 03/05/2004 22:43

I had it earlier this year, in my mid thirties. I felt a bit down for a while afterwards, but put this down to a long period of illness, followed by even more time stuck in the house when ds caught it from me, and some other problems I was having at the time. I'm OK now though.

At age 26, but I think it must have been a second bout (must have had it as a kid, too), because it was so mild. Barely affected me at all. Someone in DH's extended family caught it as an adult for first time (age 30?) and I haven't heard anything through the family grapevine about his nerves.

It isn't very expensive either. I'll put a link on in case you want to check it out, if you do read the reviews on it too.
