Ferritin question

I have got my ferritin to 130, I was experiencing bad restless leg syndrome symptoms at 55 though I was on sertaline and am hypothyroid too.

Gp hasn't commented on stopping iron though - I've just started to recover from lots of muscle issues but clearly can raise my iron easily! My aunt had haemachromatosis too though is in her 60s. I'm on 2x200 mg a day.

I called to ask about whether to stop or reduce iron after recieving the letter saying all was normal, the receptionist said if it wasn't in letter, carry on as I have.

I'm just wondering if this is normal to carry on taking iron? What point do they tend to stop? Obviously I don't want to go over!

I'd ask the doc. Can you book a telephone appointment? 130 is a better level than most of us hypos ever see, but as you say, you don't want to go over range, which can cause a whole set of different problems.

I sometimes think he is following my lead a bit eg with thyroxine, but I guess they are supposed to judge that on how you feel.

My periods were very heavy post baby but the last one seemed less so. I've got to see him in a week or so so will discuss then.

I think the main thing is the restless leg syndrome; he said originally they couldn't prescribe a medicine for that unless my ferritin was higher, therefore to do that and see if it helped, but I don't know what this magic number is.

My gums used to be so pale they looked blue but are nice and pink now!
