DS2 is 6months old and not very well, poor lamb. He has a bit of a cough and a streaming cold, and is teething as well! He doesn't have a temperature and although he isn't taking as much food or formula as usual, he is eating reasonably well so I'm not too concerned.
But, he is obviously uncomfortable and hasn't slept well the last couple of nights (we're zombied now!) and his routine has completely gone to pot now.
How can I get more water down him? I've tried it in a cup, bottle and from a spoon but he's having none of it - he is really drooling, tons of snot and quite sicky, plus his nappies smell strong and his poo is quite solid so he must be a bit dehydrated
Also, does anyone know if I can give him calpol with teething powders?
And finally, any advice on making him a bit more comfortable generally - I'm at my wits end and all I keep doing is giving him teething powders and rubbing vaseline on his sore little nose
Thanks

Oooh Lisa I don't know what to say . I have heard salt water squirted up the nose is a good idea?

Look at what it is the calpol and teething powder, calpol contains paractemol so as long as the teething powder doesn't contain that you are fine.

Squirt a syringe of water into his mouth if you are desparate, or put a bit of water into his dummy and let him suck on that (pin prick the end of it and pour the water over, doesn't work that well!)

Books under one side of the cot so his head is lifted a bit should work to clear him up

I hope he feels better soon x x x

Oh sorry to hear he's not well Lisa. Has he actually got a cold or did the cough and runny nose start with the teething ??? My Ds always gets a cough and runny nose when teething.

I don't know if you can give calpol and teething powders vos i've never used them.

How about giving him medised at night, that will help with teething as it has paracetamol in it, and it should help him sleep too.

Also we put loads of Snuffle babe on ds and we've got one of those Karvol plug ins which are quite good.

Only thing is can think of for getting more water down him is perhaps a syringe. I have done that before when desperate for them to drink.

Hiya Lisa. Poor little O. Medised is a good medicine for babies as it treats all cold symptons pus teething pain, and it tends to knock them out, we got through quite a bit of it with DD as she always sufferred with the teething. I also used the powders too, i found rubbing the dummy in them ensures it gets right on the gums. IYSWIM.

Too clear his nose you could try a steamy bathroom with some of the vapour baby bubble bath in and pop some vapour rub on his chest. Also when he goes to bed, boil kettle and put it in a bowl with some of the vapour rub and place in room out of his reach.(have done this with DD too as helps her get off to sleep)

Good Luck, hope you have a better night. XXXX

teething powder is homeopathic, says active ingredient is chamomilla??? Sounds okay to give with calpol?
He's getting grottier as the day wears on, poor babes

As long as there is no paracetamol in it Lisa it should be fine.

ffs, just rang nhs direct to find out which chemist is open in the area tonight, and the "only one in West Yorkshire" is in Leeds city centre train station
So he will have to wait for any medised!
