Mortons neuroma

I have mortons neuroma in both my feet. The pain is horrendous. I probably need surgery but have been reading about cryotherapy. Has anyone got any experience of this?
Anyone got any recommendations or idea of the cost of something like this?

I could've written this! Sorry I can't help, but watching with interest.

Have you seen a chiropodist? They can help. Sometimes they inject them with steroid if they can feel them. I had them and was referred to the foot and ankle clinic and got insoles made which helped. I was just about to go and do the Inca trail and the results were amazing. You may not need surgery.

I had surgery to remove 2 about 5 years ago and am due to have one removed from my other foot later this year. I haven't any experience of cryotherapy but can honestly say I haven't looked back since my surgery and can't wait to have the other one done! Would be interested to hear more about cryotherapy... off to google!!

I had one surgically removed last February and just like Mrsbob it was brilliant. I am now completely pain free and my foot is back to normal. My surgeon said that the key is to bury the nerve in muscle once it has been cut to prevent it from trying to re-grow which can cause pain after surgery. The operation was very quick and I was only in hospital for half a day. There was hardly any pain afterwards. I was hobbling for a couple of weeks and fully recovered within 6 weeks. Please let me know if you need any more info.

Thanks all, I've tried steroid injections and support pads with no joy, I'm just worried about having the op and the end of the nerve growing a neuroma which is fairly common.
It's so painful I cry Blush

I had surgery to remove a Mortons neuroma in 2012 and it was very successful. I'm a keen runner and before I had the op was in a lot of pain and could hardly walk. I had to stop running for a year.
After the op I slowly got back into running and last year ran the London Marathon.

I agree the thought of surgery is frightening but for me it was the best option. It had got to the point where the only comfy shoes I could wear were trainers and Ugg boots!

I started a thread at the time 'Mortons Neuroma has anyone had this?' (Sorry can't do link).

I don't know about cryotherapy but feel free to Pm me with any surgery questions.

I have one in my right foot but so far I can bear padded soled or soft platform shoes to take the pressure of it. I have gone back to Fly London shoes now to relieve the pressure and look stylish at the same time having loved for years in trainers and boots. Summer is FitFlops.

The chiropodist actually aggravated mine by removing some of the hard skin under the toe towards the ball of the foot. It must have been protecting it until then an almost immediately I felt pain. She has suggested insoles but they didn't really work for me. I tolerate it at the moment with memory foam inserts in every shoe I can which also keep my feet warm but I am sure at some point I will have to have it surgically sorted.

I'm so glad I found this thread. My DH has just been diagnosed with this after 6 months of blood tests, X-rays & countless GP appts. He finally has a referral for the steroid injections. I just wondered if anyone else suffered knee pain or back pain as a result of the foot pain? And if this is fairly common?

Also, when does surgery become a necessity/option?

Sadit · 26/05/2015 14:47

Pippin I have the same pain and the orthopaedic Doctor said o was compensating for the pain and trying to protect my foot
