Car accident - post concussion syndrome

I had a car accident on Monday and was told by doctor I had 'post concussion syndrome' along with the the expected aches and pains. Since then I feel like my brain won't work properly! I am forgetful and can't seem to follow conversations properly. I just wondered if anyone else had it and for how long, I'm wanting to give work an estimate as to how long I will be off.

I've seen several children with post concussion syndrome. One couldn't walk for a couple of weeks and, although now mobile, has some memory problems. He finds it hard to answer questions he wouldn't have had a problem with before. I think there are varying degrees of it, depending on how severe the injury was, so he could be struggling for a month or a lot longer. It can lead to emotional changes too, exhibited by anger and mood swings. It can be a short term problem or go on for years. Each case is different. You must be very careful not to knock your head again during this time.

I fainted in September 2013 and hit my head on a marble kitchen counter and then the metal kitchen bin before finally hitting the tiled kitchen floor with a thump.

I was out cold - longer than an average faint because they think I knocked myself out on the way down.

Anyway - I did have concussion then post consucussion syndrome. It lasted until the Spring of 2014 but did lessen with time. I would say until the Christmas it was certainly limiting me. I was at college at the time and didnt return until mid November. By January - I could see an improvement and March/April I was pretty much back to my normal self.

Going through this at the moment after a fall from my horse. Happened over a month ago and still feel brain fog.

Ok, so I can expect a bit of a long haul! It's the brain fog that worries me as I am a midwife so a clear head is really an essential, and I do a lot of driving for work which at the moment makes me feel sick with fear, but i know work will be trying to rush me back. Thank you for your replies
