hashimotos- candida diet??

Looking for any info on diet with relation to hashimotos hypothyroid and candida. I was diagnosed hypo ten years ago and take levothyroxine but have noticed little to no improvement in my original symptoms despite my levels all being normal or optimal (inc T3). I am very thin and suffer with hives, insomnia, hairloss. I have often wondered about diet and have trialled gluten free with minor improvements and recently trialled non dairy (saw no difference). Unfortunately after returning to eating dairy I developed severe IBS symptoms (daily loose stools and wind sorry tmi!!) and oral thrush which has been treated twice with medication with no improvement. Two weeks of no dairy/ gluten did not impact on the IBS or thrush so I have tried to return to eating some dairy and gluten low fibre (not very healthy I know) as I am underweight. I have read lots about the candida diet but am frightened to restrict myself again after what happened with non dairy and because of my low BMI. I have cut my sugar intake drastically but noticed no difference in the thrush. Am quite scared too because apparently oral thrush usually is only found in those with compromised immune systems (?!). Should mention I had my baby five months ago so this could be linked. Any help/ advice welcome?

Well I'm going to bite the bullet and reduce my thyroxine Smile I am definitely going to look into dietary changes. Maybe you're right a couple of weeks may not be long enough but with a small baby and hormones raging I panicked and am just desperate to get sorted. No sleep, no hair, rashes and tummy troubles are not helping the mummy workload Wink xxx

I did loose a lot of hair post baby, more patterned than all over but probably all over too! But could be iron.

I assume you will discuss with Dr? Do you know what your t4 was?

lollydoll1 · 15/05/2015 08:52

They didn't test t4. The fact that they don't do a full thyroid panel Is not at all helpful really. They only did t3 because my tsh was so low. I've heard iron can be linked to hairloss. I also get lots of muscle twitching Confused

after I've taken the thrush medication and it inevitably doesn't clear it up I'll go back to GP. I'm there so often I might as well move in!

Oh? Are you uk? I'm surprised. Were they happy to stay at your dose?

I'd definitely discuss it carefully.

I've had muscle issues with iron, restless leg syndrome.

I just thought of this too:

I think it's going to be a matter of eliminating things. I do know pregnancy can mess lots of things up for a while

lollydoll1 · 15/05/2015 09:47

Yes I'm UK. Dr did want me to reduce dose but I was just frightened to swing into hypo. Bloody hormones!

I know, I've had that fear too. I'm starting to think (this is me personally though) that in the past I've thought it's all thyroxine (feeling hypo) when it could have been iron. I'm interested to see where I feel well at tsh wise and thyroxine wise when I know my iron has been good for a decent length of time. Ie, that a Tsh of 1 is better than 0.3. (Even tho still on range)

lollydoll1 · 15/05/2015 20:50

You may be right. I know my iron has been low for several years. (I just didn't realise the implications because no Dr drew my attention to it as it was in range). I wish I'd supplemented before I got pregnant now!
