Deficient in? Is it calcium?

Yes, I think so.

JackieNo · 08/11/2006 13:32

Can just mean you've bashed them on something. Not sure about deficiencies.

Miaou · 08/11/2006 13:32

Lack of zinc, iirc.

fartmeistergeneral · 08/11/2006 13:34

Oh, interesting, because it's only on one nail, and I jammed it in the door (agony!) yesterday.

Reason I thought it might be deficiencies is that I'm low in iron and have been advised to take supplements. Thought I might be deficient in sth else.

How do I get zinc into my diet? If that's what it is?

oh, no. My one-year-old has lots. Can't believe it is calcium deficiency, he has lots of milk and cheese and yoghurts. Also eats more fruit and veg than I can afford to buy.

JackieNo · 08/11/2006 13:35

googling suggests zinc rather than calcium.

More info about zinc .

justaphase · 08/11/2006 13:37

so... what has zinc? dark chocolate?

Miaou · 08/11/2006 13:37

try again!
here

JackieNo · 08/11/2006 13:38

Dark chocolate - you wish. Corned beef, according to the link I posted.

justaphase · 08/11/2006 13:40

Meats, seafood (especially oysters), and liver are the richest sources; brewer?s yeast, milk and other dairy products, beans, and wheat germ also supply some zinc.

Hmm, now all I need to do is get the baby to eat oysters...

fartmeistergeneral · 08/11/2006 13:40

corned beef.

oh

sigh

was rooting for the chocolate too

Ideal weaning food, oysters. Can you puree them?

justaphase · 08/11/2006 13:43

mind you, he seems to like slimey things... off to remortgage the house

ready4motherhood · 12/11/2006 20:12

I have these on my fingernails from time to time... my manicurist told me they are "bruises" don't shoot me down, I know she isn't a healthy professional, but she said it is a myth that they are calcium deficiencies! As the nail grows the "bruise" or white spot moves.
