DH has found a lump... reassurance needed!

The other day, DH admitted to me that he had found a lump in one teste a couple of weeks ago. He says he's always felt a small lump there, but he noticed it had got bigger. He said it hasn't been painful except for the odd twinge when he crosses his legs.

He went to the GP, who has confirmed that there a lump there, but wasn't able to fell whether or not it's attached. He's been referred for an ultrasound.

Obviously we're concerned that it could be Cancer, but presumably there are lots of other things it could be too? He has felt fine otherwise.

What would be the significance of it being attached or not? What is the ultrasound likely to show up? Is assume he likely to be seen quite quickly, but not sure whether we're talking days or weeks.

Can anyone give any reassurance?

It could well be an epididymal cyst which are very common. The ultrasound should be able to tell you that. It's good they are checking it

attached is less good than unattached.

Ultrasound will show straight away if its a cyst.

My DP had this and it turned out to be a cyst. Fx it's the same for you.

TheoriginalLEM · 10/05/2015 21:35

i had a cyst in my breast. i was seen within the two week rule. would assume this would be the same.

Thanks for the reassurance. Would he be likely to have pain if it was cyst?

Hoping the appointment comes through soon - having to wait is horrible.

IDream my DP had pain but they can be variable.

Can he move it about or is it fixed in one place?

Currently waiting for my own DP to have a liver ultrasound, probably nothing (like yours) but it is horrible worrying and waiting isn't it!

TheoriginalLEM · 10/05/2015 21:58

as far as i remember a cyst is a fluid filled sac. I had no pain with mine apart from when i wouldn't leave it the fuck alone

My BIL had testicular cancer, he had an ache and a lump, was referred for an ultrasound and had the testicle removed all within a week of GP referring him.

He's completely clear now, he had 1 low grade dose of chemo and 5 years of annual appointments but has been 100% healthy since and despite the Drs warning him they might struggle, they have a 10 week old DD conceived naturally (without actually trying Wink)

So, even though it's likely to be something else, if it is cancer, it's not necessarily as scary as it might sound. Thanks

Thanks, Titsalina that's actually reassuring! He doesn't have any kind of ache, he says. We'd also like to try for DC2 later this year (DS is almost a year), and I was worried about that too - what if it couldn't happen? But it's good to hear that it might still be ok.

Also OP it's worth knowing that even if it was cancer (which I'm sure it isn't), testicular has very high cure rates. So try not to worry. Easier said than done I know.

MegCleary · 10/05/2015 22:25

If it is testicular cancer one of the must curable cancers there is about 98%. The process should be pretty swift if it is ultrasound, ct if needed, surgery and they depending on the grade chemo. Some don't even need chemo. Surveillance is for 10 years maybe more. That is because if there is a rare problem after can be cured with chemo.
