dental pain

I've been referred for some treatment at a dental hospital next week (extractions x3) however I am in a lot of discomfort. Not agonising pain but general dull throbbing.

I've been taking ibuprofen and paracetamol but it's not cutting it. What else could I take?

I think the cause of the pain is my impacted and possibly decayed wisdom teeth pressing on stuff. I hate teeth.

Codeine helps sometimes but until the decayed tooth has gone, it might not make a difference. At least you've got an appointment

Mrsmorton · 09/05/2015 16:22

Sorry, possibly decayed. Impacted wisdom teeth are fuckers.

crispandfruity · 09/05/2015 16:26

At the point of referral earlier this year they didn't hurt. Swines. They know they're coming out don't they?!

Yes, thank god I've got the appointment/referral. Going through weeks/months of this would be really grim. I keep thinking about the pliers in my tool box!

Oh I feel your pain!
I've recently had 3 bonded composite fillings and I'm in pain too :(
Going to have to phone dentist on Monday.
I'm sure it's not mormal to be in this much pain after a bloody filling.
Try swilling your mouth with soluble co codamol.
Helped me when I had impacted wisdom teeth x

crispandfruity · 09/05/2015 16:56

Oh baddz, I had one of them last month. Sorry you're in pain too. Soluble co codamol is a genius idea.

The only good thing I can say about dental pain is that it's a marvellous weight loss aid.

At times like this I wish I was married to a dentist.

I'm a dentist and I refuse to treat my family... Maybe if they were in pain I would but it would definitely be a last resort. My mum doesn't even trust me to put the dishwasher on without her supervision (left home 15 years ago) so I think it would be a bad day for both of us if she had to let me loose on her wisdom teeth.

crispandfruity · 09/05/2015 17:19

Oh well, I'll rethink my plan to leave my husband for a dentist. Wine appears to be helping at the moment.

I actually love my dentist. She's kind and makes my mouth feel nice.

Grin that's nice crisp falls in love Wine helps dentists too.

I hope it's all sorted after your appointment. I have ooh clinic tomorrow, 50% dread and 50% look forward to helping people.

crispandfruity · 09/05/2015 18:29

They should be SO grateful to you!! Dentists are like magicians. They make you look pretty in the tooth dept and magic away pain - unless you're waiting to have your wizzies extracted!!

Hahaa, that made me smile. We always get one aggressive/rude patient. I thought we would have to call the police a few weeks ago because a patient was demanding a treatment that we couldn't provide.

Ho hum. I don't think it's a bad service, NHS charge of £18.80 or free if exempt, on a Sunday. Sometimes people try to "tip" us the £1.20 which we clearly can't take also, it's like 40p each so we politely decline.

Baddz · 09/05/2015 18:53

Can't beleive you get abuse mrsm :(
I would prostrate myself in gratitude at your feet if you could sort my bloody teeth out :(

crispandfruity · 09/05/2015 20:01

I agree, I'd turn up with a bottle of wine in each hand! MrsM just in case you weren't taught this in dental school, I can confirm that 3 glasses of wine cures wizzie pain. Can you cascade this info to your patients tomorrow?!

I absolutely will pass on your high quality evidence crisp I'm sure they will be delighted although less so when I explain I can't prescribe the wine...

Glad you're feeling better!!!

crispandfruity · 09/05/2015 22:05

I think that dentists should prescribe wine as a first line treatment. Hope your clinic is not eventful tomorrow MrsM!
