Very very heavy AF. Any advice?

I have had irregular periods now for the past 5 years. Mainly down to gaining a lot of weight and having the depo injection 5 years ago. I have recently lost almost 2 stone and my periods have become a little more regular, but still not fully. DH and I have been trying to conceive baby #2 for almost 5 years also (after the first depo injection had wore off after 3 months). There's been no luck, but I don't think that this is relievent?

I missed a period last month, which is quite normal for me. I started a period 3 days ago now and it is incredibly heavy. I am going through super plus tampons + a pad every 1 and a half to two hours. I am waking in the night to change or to clean because I have leaked. (TMI alert) It contains quite a lot of stringy black blood and clots. I can feel blood pouring out of me while on the loo. Cringe Sorry!! Blush

I am becoming increasingly worried. Surely this isn't normal? It can't be, can it? Sad It's showing no signs of calming down, if fact at times it feels worse.

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you & I do apologise for the explicit detail.

Oh you poor love. Go to the drs. And keep on until you feel that someone is taking you seriously. It's really not ok to feel that you have to put up with this.

I get heavy periods too. It can be quite limiting, not wanting to leave the house on the worst days, the sleeplessness from worrying about leaking / having to get up to change pads etc / from the pain. It's just horrid!

Don't apologise for the detail, it's real and it is impacting you.
And get your iron tested too, as such blood loss can lead to anaemia -ddid with me, Yay!

Please do not apologise for the detail.

GP should refer you to a gynaecologist. Do not take no for an answer.

This is not something you should have to put up with. Conditions like fibroids (and endometriosis as well) can cause heavy bleeding to arise, it needs specialist help. In the meantime keep a daily pain and or symptom diary; note everything. This will give the gynae clues.

Don't apologise for the detail. We are adults and it's relevant to your question Flowers

any changes in periods should be checked out. If it's that heavy you could be or could become anaemic so it's important you do see a Dr

I would also take a pregnancy test just to rule it out also.

good luck. Flowers

My periods used to be just like that. GP was useless, and kept fobbing me off. My periods also got longer and longer, so I ended up bleedingb18 -20 days each month.

I eventually insisted on seeing a different GP, who immediately refered me to a gynae. It turned out I had a massive fibroid, which got removed, and its been fine since then.

Please see a GP and, if your periods continue to be very heavy, insist on a referal.
