anyone know what it could be?
I presumed it was a heat rash as she'd been wearing a high necked jumper at the weekend with a vest-none of which she's been used to for a while-but itchiness seems persistent.
have tried eurax,tcp,e45 itch cream and antihistamine cream-not all at the same time!

Yes think it sounds like it, DS often gets these as he also has eczema. Just rub his eczema cream on and he is fine.

cutekids · 07/11/2006 20:46

my son has excema.d'you think it would be ok to use some of his cream?

Yes I always rub this on both DS and DD if they have itchiness and it always works. Am sure it cannot harm and has never harmed DD although its prescribed for DS.

Be careful if you are using a steroid cream that was prescribed for eczema.(it's prescription only for a reason) This shouldn't be used on a heat rash. Piriton would be the better solution.

Zippetydoodahzippetyday · 07/11/2006 21:14

My GP gives it quite easily and DS isn't a bad sufferer of eczema, he only has it mild. It helps with the itching but like 2ndtime says it is prescribed for a reason. My DD has been okay the odd time I have used it having said that.

2ndtime · 07/11/2006 21:54

Even mild steriod creams can cause nasty side effects.
Skin thinning, loss of pigment, excessive hair growth, burning, increased itching, increased rashes, easier bruising, are not advised for use on children under 10 without medical supervision, when used on large areas are absorbed to have similar side effects as oral steroids (osteoparosis to name but one!)The list is endless.
I am a trained nurse and have scarring and loss of pigment on my face and chest after using them as prescribed by my dermatologist.
Plese be careful and dont use them for rashes without seeing your doctor.
Lecture over.

Is her head itchy, too. Check for headlice.

MascaraOHaraIncredibleSheHulk · 08/11/2006 09:20

Are you sure it's not Chicken Pox?

cutekids · 08/11/2006 12:47

thanks everyone....got distracted last night and only just read answers. i have diprobase for my son...don't think it's a steroid is it?
i'm sure she's had chicken pox---think so anyway!
it's possible she's got head lice as i think my dd2 has got some eggs which i'm treating. however, when dd1 gets headlice she's usually scratching her head like mad...this seems to be under her chin and down her shoulders and chest..but only very few spots.

What was the jumper washed in? Sounds like it could be allergy to washing powder or fabric softner.

cutekids · 10/11/2006 14:51

it was a new jumper and felt very soft. i'm just scared it's something more serious. she still has this after a week.

Does sound very like my DDs' heat rash

2ndtime · 10/11/2006 21:44

Take her to the doctors if you're scared!

JanH · 10/11/2006 21:50

If it's an unwashed new jumper it may have chemicals in it that she has reacted to. Sensitive skin reacts in odd ways to odd things. Is diprobase just an emollient? If so you can use it on her without worrying.

cutekids · 13/11/2006 09:37

took her to docs on friday. he didn't even look.just reckons she's got an allergy and that i musn't "feed" it with any creams etc!
She woke up this morning though with itchiness all over her body. Not sure what to do. She has no obvious rash.

That's outrageous! How can they make a diagnosis without even bloody looking! I'd take her back to see a different doctor and complain. It could have been bloody leprosy for all he knew!! (I dont really think your DD has leprosy!
