Any GP's/Surgeons/anyone about who knows about treatment times?

Also posting in Chat.

Does anyone know about NHS waiting/referral times for surgery? My health board has a 26wk policy for patients to be treated (I think it's 95% have to be within the 26wk and 5% no longer than 36 weeks)

So. If I was referred to a surgeon last MAY (2014), saw consultant July 2014, had MRI, saw consultant again in Dec 2014 when confirmed surgery was needed then when would the 26week thing start? When would you (anyone who knows about these things) expect my surgery to be etc?

Hope that makes sense, TIA

Which part of UK are you in?
Have you tried telephoning consultant (usually talk to his secretary) and ask when you will be admitted for surgery?
Have you had a look at the NHS Choices website - it has some explanations of waiting times and links to NHS constitution.
Hope you are not waiting much longer - it sounds like you have a long haul.

Thanks Faded, I'm in Wales. I have rang the secretary, once in Jan and again last month. No date yet. I'm beginning to feel like a bit of a pain. Thanks for the tip ref NHS choices, I'll have a look now Smile

Treatment wait time targets are funny things as the definition of treatment can be pretty loose. The clock starts when the hospital recieves your referral, but when the clock stops is pretty flexible. At its simplest it stops when you recieve the first attempted treatment (a treatment that might solve the problem, not just control symptoms). The clock can also stop when a consultant decides to monitor a condition to help them decide if actual treatment is necessary. So surgery would only need to be within 26 weeks if it was the only suitable treatment option. If the consultant wanted to try something like medication or physio etc first, or wait and see if the problem goes away then surgery could still be a fair way off.
