What we are usually prescribed has been suspended indefinitely (its about to expire)The gp prescribed something else but that's suspended too (or not available)

I've found this on line

www.ashp.org/menu/DrugShortages/CurrentShortages/Bulletin.aspx?id=858

Which seems to suggest it will never be available? I don't know what to do.
All pharmacies I've tried can't get it

We usually are prescribed
10mg in 1ml (7.5mg -0.75ml) in 4 syringes.

Can anyone decifer what would be suitable on the available list? Or alternatives?

The only reason I ask is I will be presumed to know. It's already taken over a week and 'we' have got no further. I wonder if others had been prescribed something/alternatives (though that's a whole other issue 're care plans etc)

Hi - your link seems to be for the injectable formulation rather than buccal.
Have you tried contacting Epilepsy Action or the manufacturer directly?

Owllady · 07/05/2015 18:06

No I haven't, that's a really good idea, thank you
I've never contacted epilepsy action before. I know midazolam is expensive but in terms of dignity taking buccally is so much better. I hope we don't have to go back to rectal diazepam

I can't imagine buccal midazolam will be discontinued - it's too widely used now, Buccolam has a paediatric licence and I've heard Epistatus it to be provided in pre filled applicators soon. The problem is most likely one of supply or distribution although there was nothing on the Epilepsy Action website when I looked early. Manufacturers can sometimes be helpful in locating supplies, or ask your pharmacist what they can get hold of.

Owllady · 07/05/2015 21:45

It's epistatus we were getting (in syringes) but could not get so my gp prescribed buccolam be we can't get that either

The pharmacists can't help, or have said they can't. I've had a day off tbh. I'll ring the gp in the morning and suggest he talks to the pharmacist. They both tend to make it my issue to solve (I imagine because they are v busy)

Well it doesn't sound as if your pharmacist is trying very hard!
Viropharma's medical services line is 0800 731 2801 - they should be able to source a supply for you/your pharmacist

My gp has sorted it apparently. It's a supply issue but he's sorted for the chemist to get it from the manufacturer
Thanks no1runner for your help :)

I get this regularly with no issue. I think the problem is with your pharmacy.

Owllady · 08/05/2015 22:09

None of the pharmacies I tried could get it. One of the manufacturing firms has closed down and its caused a supply issue
