Found worms in dd's poo last night. How horrified was I! They are foul. Being a nurse I thought I couldn't really be freaked out but this really did!! I phoned NHS Direct who were fantastic and gave me all the information about them and went to the Dr's this morning who gave me a tablet which my dd took so well. Hopefully that is them gone. Anyone gone through the same thing?

ooh karnie isn't it just GROSS??!! We had this problem twice this year (see 'Yuck - threadworms' further down). Remember you have to treat the whole family because it does spread horribly easily (apparently the eggs become airborne - nice, huh?). Hope this is a one-off for you - I actually burst out into tears when dd got them a second time, how wimpish is that?!

I said that to the dr about treating everyone but she said no no only the one that is infected. I have a 6 month old aswell so I was worried about her picking it up.

Airbourne? Oh dear god I'll be a screeching wreck and as for crying no it's not wimpish - I could've cried. Definately.

Once she had had the treatment did they go away immediatley or did it take a while and when did it come back?

mmh karnie I'd think again about treating everybody except the baby... you can end up in a nasty cycle of giving it to each other if you don't treat everybody at the same time. Have a look at this for instance. You can buy the pills in family packs.
My dd got them again four weeks later. I think that first time round dd1 picked them up at school and spread them at home, second time round dd2 picked them up at nursery. Nightmare!!!

lovely picture, thanks for that geek

Karnie, its awful isn't it, but there aren't many children who haven't had nits, worms, eaten bogies and sundry other horrors!

Last time DS1 got them, I only found out when I got them...... Nearly passed out! When I asked him, he got his gormless look and said "Oh yeah, my bottom has been itching" ARGH!

Never heard of not treating the whole family; AFAIK, get a pack of ovex, everyone takes a tablet and then two weeks later, you all take another tablet
