Had letter this morning - ds's appointment with lung specialist has been put back by two weeks.
To the Wednesday before Christmas... great date... which is when dd1's carol service will be which I don't want to miss... but if I phone up and change they'll probably say January won't they?

I can't wait any longer, this is driving me insane.
I need to go private, just need to work out how to do it.

I am so

i would ring them anyway tbh and complain. make sure they give you an earlier appointment and make it clear to them that you HAVE to have an earlier appointment. Sending you lots of love x x

worth a try I suppose, isn't it?

I am so glad I have the health service here Emkana when I read your threads! (Know that doesn't help, sorry!)

Get a referral letter from your GP, who should be able to give you the names of some consultants and at which private hospitals they practice.

You should be aware that there are Government regulations that prevent private hospitals from dealing with children under the age of three without certain certification and unless a paediatric nurse is present - this includes simple consultations so you might find the choice slightly more limited than you would for an older child.

Where abouts are you emkana?

emkana · 07/11/2006 10:24

I'm in Gloucestershire.

That's sh!t Emkana. Do call them and see if you can get in any earlier before Christmas.

mummydoc · 07/11/2006 10:40

where in gloucs north or south , i know private paeds work out of winfield private hospital in gloucester, but hereford for instance the paeds wont see people privately, if you need a lung specialist as opposed to general paeds you may need to tak ehim to bristol/birmingham or even london to get a private specialist. for what its worht i have always pain up front and taken my LOs to see someone privately when they have needed it.

emkana · 07/11/2006 10:41

I could get to the Winfield.
Are you in glos?

I so wish I lived in London and could go to Great Ormond Street.

You'd need to have a paed consult before the paed decided whether you'd need to see a chest physician or continue to see him - usually. It does depend on each paeds speciality tbh.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 07/11/2006 11:27

Dr John Henderson, who works out of the Bristol Hospital, according to the net is a paed who specialises in respiratory conditions. Dont know if that helps?

mummydoc · 07/11/2006 11:30

if you are going privately and paying you can choose where you go , if you wanted a specialist in london you may need to find out who you wanted to see and then get a referral letter fron your gp, it depends on how sympathetic your gp is , i would usually try to find someone for my patients but some gps may not be prepared to help find someone out of region , the suggestion at bristol seems good - i will go and make some enquiries for you about paeds at the winfielld ...back in moment...

mummydoc · 07/11/2006 11:45

i am back....simon ackroyd is private paed at winfield - he is lovely by all accounts butnot specialist respiratory , i have 3 other suggestions BUT please note i do not know htem or have any reccomendations but my secs have found them on the specialist search database thingy...dr ian bowler private at St Josephs private hospital newport, dr michel webb sees private patients at gloucester royal itself ,his secs number is 08454 228493 you could ring and ask her the arrangements for being seen privately, and dr weller sees private patients at birmingham childrens and his secs number is 0121 472 3233, they all specialise in paediatirc respiratoey problems....hope all that helps. if i was you i would contact dr webbs secretary first and see if you ds can have a private appt at gloucester royal and then go back to your gp and present it as fait accompli and ask for a referral letter - if you have a nhs referral ususally just a copy of htat will do. good luck

emkana · 07/11/2006 14:35

Thank you very much for that, mummydoc!
Unfortunately it looks like Dr. Webb has actually stopped seeing private patients.

VVV, do you know if Dr. Henderson sees people privately?

I phoned Bristol and they had a cancelled appointment I was able to have, so now I'm seeing somebody on the 29th of Nov, one week earlier than the original appointment.
Feeling much happier now!

Thanks again for all the help, I might still see somebody privately because there are all the other issues related to ds's condition.

I dont em. The best way is to ring his usual hospital and ask to speak to his secretary. They ALL have secretaries. They often do run private clinics here and there, at various private hospitals.

Glad you got an earlier appointment
