I'm terrified of going to the dentist and neglected to go for years.

I ended up going to hospital to have teeth removed and now have nearly no back teeth. I'm really conscious that when I laugh or big smile you can see I'm missing teeth. I try not to get involved with talking to people one on one incase they see Sad

I can't eat properly, I have to chew with my front teeth, I've stopped eating in front of people and now eat nothing during the day whilst at work.

Can I go back to the dentist and ask for help, is there anything that can be done?

Yes you could have partial dentures made, you can get a basic set on the NHS. Do you know if your teeth were lost to decay or gum disease?

AlpacaLypse · 02/05/2015 21:45

Yes, there's stuff that can be done, and a lot of it is non-intrusive. You need to say roughly where you are so some of us can recommend good orthodontic surgeries not too far from where you live.

Thank you for replying.

It was tooth decay and I'm in the South East.

I'm scared because the few teeth I have left at the back are now also damaged because I'm useing them to try and eat properly in private, my confidence and self asteem are at an all time low which I know sounds silly but I'm really conscious that my face looks all dipped in and sallow and I've lost loads of weight - should be a good thing but I was under weight to start with Sad]

I wouldn't suggest orthodontics would be appropriate. I really think dentures are your best and most affordable option

DragonsCanHop · 02/05/2015 22:28

Dentures as in false teeth I have to take out at night? I'm still relatively Young and although I know it's my own fault, fear issues with my mouth I don't fancy joing the denture gang just yet.

Would implants be an option? Missing 7 teeth mainly at the top including my wisdom ones.

Thanks again for the replies.

Implants are an option, works out at around 1500 to 2000 each. You should look into sedation for yourself if it is fear holding you back. You will not know a thing afterwards they use a sort of hypnotic drug, the same one for a gastroscopy so that you have little recall of the procedure.

RandomMess · 02/05/2015 22:49

Not everyone is suitable for implants but please go and see a good dentist, they will go through your options and help you come to a decision.

If you are in NW Surrey I can recommend and amazing dentist.

I have booked an appointment with my dentist next week, I can't go on like this.

It is effecting my daily life now, I really feel down about it and not able to eat due to lack of teeth and damaged teeth through eating. Can you have implants on the NHS or a payment plan?

I'm in the South East

Depends on your dentist re: payment plan.

South East is a huge area!

DragonsCanHop · 02/05/2015 23:20

Sorry, Essex...
