She has become allergic to all of her heart medicines. GP doesn't want to change them and I agree.
What is happening, is the end coming?

Been on them for about 40 years.

Can't really advise so bumping for you. Can you get her seen by a cardiologist i would have thought this is beyond the gp.

SilverHawk · 29/04/2015 21:49

She is carefully monitored by the Cardiologists as she has a pacemaker.

You could try this helpline www.bhf.org.uk/heart-health/how-we-can-help/heart-helpline

TheoriginalLEM · 29/04/2015 21:54

i was just wondering if they could find her alternative medication. it must be very worrying for you. When you say allergic do you mean she is having allergic reactions or has she become intolerant?

SilverHawk · 29/04/2015 21:55

She had a pacemaker in the 70s. The drugs that are so essential are verapamil and proprananol.

OP posts:
SilverHawk · 29/04/2015 21:57

What does intolerant mean, exactly?

OP posts:
SilverHawk · 29/04/2015 22:04

Okay, just looked, it's allergy.

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 29/04/2015 22:05

If she is allergic, she has no choice but so stop them.

What do you mean by allergy?
Confused

SilverHawk · 29/04/2015 22:08

If she stops them, she dies.

Rashes from head to foot. GP agrees it's the medicines.

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 29/04/2015 22:15

She needs to speak to her cardiologist.

Has the brand of meds changed recently?
It's possible that it's not the actual active ingredient but filler substances/colourants/inactive ingredients that may have changed and cause a reaction.

There are alternatives to most cardiac meds.
And of course the option to suppress the reaction. With more meds Hmm - not idea, but an option.

Sounds v hard and worrying. Sorry you and her are having to deal with this.

SilverHawk · 29/04/2015 22:23

There has been no brand change.
It really is not possible to mess with her meds. Heart failure, kidney failure (and only one), diabetic etc etc

However, she was told, in her 30s, that she would only live ten years. She is now 82 and that is a marvel.

OP posts:
RandomMess · 29/04/2015 22:26

Is she taking anti histamines to counteract the rashes etc.?

PacificDogwood · 29/04/2015 22:26
Sad Wishing you all the best Thanks
TheoriginalLEM · 29/04/2015 22:28

maybe not a brand change but the manufacturer may have changed something. not the active ingredient but the carrier. If i were the dr id be checking this out however that is unlikely if its more than one medication.

You do sound very worried and its understandable.

Do they have a plan as to how to tackle this?

SilverHawk · 29/04/2015 22:32

ATM she is only taking loratadine and has been given some creams usually used for eczema. Di base(?) and something else, thick and greasy.

OP posts:
RandomMess · 29/04/2015 22:49

If the loratadine isn't helping she needs to try different ones, it's very much a case of trial and error.
