Buying tranexamic acid / Cyklo-f at Boots - how does it work?

Total premenstrual forgetfulness alert, or that's my excuse. I'm away on a work trip, and brought an empty blister pack of my tranexamic acid for heavy periods with me instead of enough tablets to see me through the next few days. Blush

It looks like it is possible to buy the equivalent (Cyklo-f) OTC at Boots if the pharmacist thinks it is appropriate. I don't have my GP prescription with me, but assume I don't need a prescription to buy over the counter anyway. What does the pharmacist need to know / see? I don't want to waste a trip if I can help it

Thank you!

Yes you can buy them without prescription from the pharmacy. You don't need to bring anything. The pharmacist might ask you a few questions, but that's it. IIWY I would bring along the empty blister pack, so they can see exactly what you need.

I didn't know you could buy tranexamic acid from the pharmacy.Shock I used it years ago for heavy periods, but needed a prescription. I was talked into having the mirena coil fitted, which fell out 4 years later.
I was told you could only use them for a short period of time (hence the coil)
I don't intend getting another coil but need to sort out these bleeds.
I don't live in the UK but will be over shortly for a visit. Would I just be able to go to Boots and pick some up???

Tranexamic acid used to be prescription only, was changed to a pharmacy medicine maybe 4 or 5 years ago.
It's worth a try mm. In theory the pharmacist could refuse if they don't think it is right for you, but that seems unlikely given you have taken it before.

I have a very out of date prescription and unused tablets that I will bring along to show the pharmacist. Keeping my fingers crossed as it would make a huge difference to my life.

the pharmacy were great for me - I think you need to be under 46 and 'regular ' but other than that there should be no worries. I only need one pack though - not sure about buying multiple boxes although why not if it saves a trip every month
