Smelly scalp

Why does 3w-old ds2's scalp smell of oily scalp? Quite strongly, too - almost like a grown man. My other two LOs never smelt like this, and even now, as children, their scalps are sweet-smelling. Is there anything I can do about it? I don't think it's a good idea to shampoo a newborn's head every day. In any case, when I shampooed his head with gentle baby shampoo it still smelled of scalp afterwards, just not quite as strongly.

I think it's because they sweat through their heads - can you try Dentinox shampoo? I used this with both boys and their heads smelled of roses (and no cradle cap ).

DS2 has never had soap on his body and only had bubbles in the bath about three times in his 9m, but I do wash his hair because I like the fluffy hair look and smell of roses!

Dentinox smells of roses? I remember it smelling chemical - vaguely remeniscent of Vosene. Might give it a try (or at least a sniff in Boots).

Hi
My 4 month old has just developed cradle cap quite badly and her scalp is smelly too. Not sure if that's what your little one is suffering from. I've just stated to use olive oil at night (massage in) & a Dentinox wash in the day to see if that clears it up. I'll give it a week and see if it clears/less smelly! In the meantime I might look for something a little less chemical to sort it out.

My other 2 had cradle cap. With no1 we tried Dentinox to clear it, and gavr up because it kept coming back and I felt thast regular shampoing was probably unhgealthy. In the end we ignored it unless it got too crusty, in which case we rubbed either olive oil or evening primrose oil onto it and remove looseend scales off a nitcomb a few hours later. Then shampood with ordinary mild baby shampoo. Probably every month or two. Did the same with no2. But neither of them had smelly scalps, and the only time we used shampoo on them was when we'd oiled their heads.
