Sprain or fracture?

I fell and landed badly on Monday, twisting my ankle. The pain at the time was intense and I couldn't weight bear on the foot, and I felt dizzy and faint for about 5/10 minutes. I was able to limp half an hour afterwards though, and am now able to walk without any problems, other than stiffness. My foot is now pretty swollen though, and bruised on the inside and outside.

Is there any point in visiting my local minor injuries unit to see whether it's a fracture? I'm scared they'll move and press my ankle and it'll hurt

Sprain or fracture?

That's quite impressive bruising and swelling Sewing!
I suggest you get it X-rayed to rule out fracture. If your minor injuries unit have xray facility then go there, otherwise A&E tomorrow. They might advise from some support like a splint or plaster, and eventually you might benefit from some exercises to strengthen it and prevent long term 'weak ankle'.
In the meantime, RICE: Rest, icepack (frozen peas in a cloth, no ice directly onto skin, up to 20 minutes every 3-4 hours), compression (tubigrip, not too tight, just supportive) and elevation (up on footstool when sitting).
Hope it gets better soon.

Thanks Faded. Typically, my car failed its MOT today, so I'll have to walk to the minor injuries unit... They have an X-ray room so should be able to check it out. Thanks for the advice; I won't get much resting done with an almost 3 year old unfortunately!

Rest
Ice
Elevate
Compression

All of the above for first aid.
You may or may not need and X-ray, but you should be assessed (look up 'Ottawa rules').
From what you are describing, it may well be a sprain.
Good luck.

Oops, I just realised I repeat what FadedRed had already said Blush
