Fibrinogen levels high - advice please

I have recently been sent for a blood test due to unexplained hives, petichaie and easy/unexplained bruising, along with a few incidences of night sweats. They tested FBC, Clotting and Liver, as well as testing for common food and household allergies.

Everything came back clear apart from the Fibrinogen level on the clotting test, showing at >4.5g/l, with normal levels being between 2 - 4 g/l. The nurse practitioner didn't actually state what a high fibrinogen level may mean, only that in a blood test in 2009 it was the same result and in 2008 it was 9 Shock She didn't seem overly concerned about it at all, just mentioned that the recent symptoms wouldn't be anything to do with the fibrinogen.

Now, having had a google (i know, i know) it is coming up that high fibrinogen is an indicator of coronary heart disease, stroke and clots. Obviously this has sent me into a bit of a panic and left me wondering why the doctors don't seem to be concerned at what looks like a consistantly high level of fibrinogen. I am overweight, even more so than 7 years ago, and am 28. I know that I need to lose weight and was already beginning to make steps towards this today, but reading about what this high level of fibrinogen could mean I have well and truly had a kick up the backside.

Should I be concerned about this result and be asking my GP what action we should take with regards to this? It really just seems as though it has been brushed off. Does anyone else have any experience of high fibrinogen levels...or any GP's who may be able to calm my mind please? Advice very gratefully received Flowers

Don't worry about your fibrinogen level - the usual cause of it being raised is a bit of inflammation. If there is a problem with the fibrinogen it is normally really high - think 20+. 4.5 (or even 9) is nothing to worry about, especially if all other tests are normal.
