Whole pelvic area feels really unstable

For the last year now I have had really bad hip pain, in the groin area. Started on one side, now both. It clicks, sticks and catches all the time. Getting in and out the car, walking upstairs, turning, bending, basically any movement my hips complain.
It was really bad for a while but the doctor said it was muscle related and sent me to physio. Any exercise made it worse. I have bought a walking stick as my right hip gives out now and then. I walk with a permanent gimp now.
Now the ache is in my pubic area. Feels like spd( had in both pregnancies)
That whole area feels really uncomfortable.
I know if I go back to the doctor he will suggest physio again, even though I know it is not muscle issues.
How can I be more assertive in asking for further tests for hip impingement or labral tear as I suspect it may be.

Tell them just what you've posted here (although I expect autocorrect is responsible for 'gimp' instead of limp :) ).

I've had the same. Luckily still on one side for me.

I've been passed from pillar to post. And I had to keep going back to the GP to complain that it wasn't getting better for them to do anything.

GP - go away and see how it improves
GP - xrays and blood tests looking for arthritis.

GP - told me I could self refer for physio
Physio - Suspected bursitis, exercises made things worse. They didn't know what to do and referred me to the hospital
Triage nurse at hospital - Suspected bursitis. Go back for physio.
Different physio - see as other physio! No different.

FINALLY referred to an orthopaedic surgeon who looked at the original x ray which was by then over 3 years old and pointed out the FAI I have on my right hip.

He sent me for a steroid injection to help provide relief and to help diagnose me. When it provided only temporary relief he scheduled me for hip arthroscopy surgery to clean out the joint, look for any labrum repairs and to smooth down the impingment..... which I am having on Monday.

I suggest explaining your symptoms and suspicions and asking outright if you can be referred to an OS. Good luck.

Pretty much the same story as marnie above except no xray.
Sounds just like my hip. I went to the Dr (yet again) and explained how much pain I am in, how much it has stopped me doing and that the physio I'd paid for was no help for me.
I was referred for an orthopedic review. She examined me and said is likely a labral tear but need an MRI scan to confirm. I'd never heard of that tear but I fit all the symptoms.
So explain how bad it is basically. Good luck ... and good luck Marnie ... I'd be interested to hear how your op goes on Monday.
