Gallbladder and liver problems

Sorry, Mumsnet was playing up as i clicked 'create conversation' so my original post has been lost!

The gist of it is that I have had gallstones since Dec, diagnosed in Feb, op due in May.

Last Friday and Saturday I suffered an attack whenever I ate anything at all, and I only eat fat free or very low fat food. On Sunday it was so bad I was taken in by ambulance and given gas and air and morphine and left in a&e for a few hours. I was sent home with co-codamol for the pain.

When I woke up on Monday my urine was dark brown, my eyes are going yellow, my stomach was very painful and swollen, and I felt sick and dizzy. I called 111 for advice as I could not get a GP appointment and they sent an ambulance. Paramedic said all my signs were ok except my blood pressure which was a bit high. He called my surgery and got me an appointment for later that day.

GP prescribed me suppositories for the pain and sent me home.

I am still no better, urine brown, eyes yellow, stomach very painful. I feel sick and dizzy on and off but am able to eat small amounts. I feel like my liver is swollen and very unwell and I'm scared that I'm going to be left like this until my op in May. Every day I feel weaker and weaker.

Has anybody experienced this or got any advice?

The advice i received from my dr and a & e drs was any sign of jaundice was a sign of a blocked bile duct and a medical emergency. In your position id go to a&e

redspottydress · 15/04/2015 09:06

I did. I also developed pancreatitis at the same time. I was unable to lay flat due to pain and had pain radiating to my back. Is there someone who can drive you to A and E? Or get a taxi. The jaundice can be caused by a lodged stone that can be removed with a relatively simple procedure.

Go to A&E!

TheFutureMrsB · 15/04/2015 09:11

I had this, was sent from GP straight to hospital but ended up coming from there as I was left in a side room for 6 hours without being seen, it went within a week. It was a blocked bile duct that caused mine, didn't have any treatment so I guess it just moved of its own accord but it was agonising for a week.

TheFutureMrsB · 15/04/2015 09:11

Oh I would advise getting it seen to though! I pressed post too soon!

MalletsMallet · 16/04/2015 03:07

Thanks for the replies, I heeded the advice and came straight to A&E. I'm on morphine and being kept in overnight then face scans and other tests to see how my liver and pancreas is doing. They say they may need to put a camera down and dislodge stones from the bile ductsShock Shock Shock
I wish they'd just take the bloody gallbladder out !!

There is a reasonable chance they will take the gallbladder out whilst you are in (dependent on the hospital, we would in ours) but if you are jaundiced then that has to be sorted first to make the operation safe. Good luck.

you poor, poor bugger Sad...I really hope this is resolved for you asap

owner of a single but annoying gallstone

The gall bladder and liver are connected. Hoping they can help you OP

Mine did this for a fortnight, had abnormal liver tests & then all back to normal after only 2 episodes of pain.

CT scan was clear & consultant thought I'd passed the stone.

I really swithered about surgery but was so glad to have it done - my gallbladder was inflamed & the stone was obstructing the outlet, causing it to be filled with mucousy yuk.

The actual surgery is fine - a walk in the park compared to a Caesarian.

Hope you're better soon OP.
