Can a child just have 1 chicken pox spot?

I noticed a blister on DD's shoulder today. I know chickenpox is going round the school.
This evening she still only had the one blister - she doesn't seem ill...Could it be chickenpox?

FarMARSWarrick · 02/11/2006 21:48

DT1 had one blister on her shoulder! DT2 was covered poor darling!

Ponka · 02/11/2006 21:50

DS1 had loads. DS2 had one. It was diagnosed as Chicken Pox by a doctor. They are still infectious with one . I've been told he may get it again.

Spagblog · 02/11/2006 21:50

Could it be anything else?
I don't want to stop her going to school and parties if it isn't the pox, and I don't want to expose anyone to it if it is...How can I tell.

my lo had very mild chicken pox only a couple of spots.means more likely to get it again!

Ponka · 02/11/2006 21:59

It does sound very much like the pox if it's a blister but I'm not an expert. If more haven't appeared in the morning, I'd pop into the doctor's surgery and ask so you can be sure. That's what I did.

Good Luck. Let us know. In a way, it's good to get it over with. It is worse in adulthood.

Spagblog · 02/11/2006 22:03

I'll take her to the Drs. Thanks!
She has two parties to go to in the next week so fingers crossed for her that it isn't the pox!

If it is Chicken poxI think that once the spots appear she will already be over the worst and if she's going to pass it on will have already done so. If the parties she is going to are with school friends, chances are they've already been in contact with it anyway.
If it's just one spot and she's feeling ok, I say let her go to the parties.

my dd came down with the pox 3 days before our wedding. Luckily she only had about half a dozen spots. Her brother unfortunately wasnt quite so lucky 2 weeks later

curlew · 02/11/2006 23:00

The spots are quite distinctive - if its a blister that breaks and then crusts over then 99% it's chicken pox. My dd had one spot - which made a huge scar - fortunately under her hair. They often aren't ill with it, BTW.

Apparently first time I had chicken pox I had one spot on my bum. Second time I had a ton of the blisters on my bum. Then when I got shingles it was across nerve at top of bum...guess thats my chicken pox area

snowleopard · 02/11/2006 23:10

Ah, I wish spagblog. DS has chickenpox at the moment and he has hundreds - we noticed two spots on his stomach on Monday night (and he seemed well), they were the same on Tuesday morning, then on Tuesday afternoon they started popping up everywhere. So she may well have it and will have loads more spots soon. However, it is posssible to have it with just a few spots, or just the one.

Poor DS has them in his hair, on his lips, in his ears, armpits, bum, everywhere! I get itchy just looking at him. In fact I feel itchy now just thinking about it. Does anyone know how soon the itchy stage passes (sorry to hijack)?

Hi, my two daughters weren't ill when they had chicken pox and at the time I thought they had quite a lot of spots. This year my poor ds2 came out with the first spot on his 7th birthday. There was one spot on his stomach at 3.15pm and by 10 pm they were appearing all over him, before my eyes. He was extremely ill with the illness and lost a lot of weight and exactly 12 days later his little 2 year old brother came down with them too, he was much worse than his brother and his face actually looked swollen with the red spots.

All I can advise is, to go to the doctors and if it is c.pox ask for Piriton and Eurax cream. The cream is wonderful, it stops the itchiness for up to 10 hours. HTH .

Spagblog · 03/11/2006 11:38

She has the pox! Quite a few now.

Hi Spagbol, hope she doesn't get too many of them and try to get the cream combined with the Piriton medicine too, my sons have hardly any scars. Hope she get's well soon.

Ponka · 04/11/2006 20:46

Oh dear. Sorry to hear that. Hope she gets better soon.
