Should I be worried? I need to book a smear test but just as I try to get an appt I get my period. Is this normal for perimenipausal

I don't know if it's normal, but I do know that periods take on a life of their own around this time. Mine went all over the place, I went to GP, I did get checked out, all seemed in order but have now got a Mirena coil which makes periods completely manageable again thank God.

Thanks I'll try and make a smear appt this week as soon as A/F finishes. The bonus is I'm not getting PMT or the migraines each month any more.

Don't know if it's normal, but I'm 44 and mine have been all over the place for the last couple of years. I've just had 3 in 6 weeks. Now I probably won't have one for a couple of months. I've had a smear and everything's ok.

Mine are all over the place now and at my last smear, the nurse told me to book a few appointments to get round this problem. And then cancel the one you won't need.

Again, not sure if it is normal, but this is definitely happening to me age 44. At my last smear, the nurse said the newest method of getting a sample means it doesn't matter if you are having a period, although obviously if you are bleeding heavily, its not going to be very pleasant for anyone!

I'm 42 (nearly 43) & having very frequent periods too. I saw my GP about it & had blood tests for thyroid, anaemia etc. These all came back normal so it looks like perimenopause. My GP suggested taking Cerazette or trying a coil.

My mum was 45 when she went through the menopause, as was my gran, so I guess it'll not be too long for me too.

I am 44 and since the age of 40 have been having frequent periods normally between 16 and 26 days. I have also found that they last longer now as well an average of between 7 and 10 days to my previous 5. When it all started I had bloods scan smear etc and all came back normal and was put down to age/hormones. I went on the mini pill for about 18 months (didn't fancy mirena coil) but it just made it worse with constant spotting in between periods so it felt like I was on a constant period so I stopped it. I have now had my first missed period , haven't had one since February. Bit concerning at first but 3 negative pregnancy tests have put my mind at ease. Not sure if I should be going to the dr again for more blood tests though.

47 and same here (cycles were 28-30 days, now 22-24 days) periods also very heavy and can last 10 days. Also have fibroids. Mirena coil made bleeding lighter but almost constant so no good! Also gave me acne. Now back on combined pill and although periods still heavy at least they're only once a month!
