My 6 year old dd was sick suddenly a couple of times on Monday, been off food but ok since then but today was sick at school.

I don't know what to think as usually if she's ill it's for a day or 2 then better, this seems to be some kind of tummy problem as poo very pale & I think she's getting an unpleasant taste in mouth some of the time..

anyone else had this?

my DS had this last year along with a dreadful tummy bug and I was told to stop giving him milk - is DD drinking milk?

Eowyn · 02/11/2006 15:26

she doesn't have milk except at school (only just remembered that). I wonder why that would have an effect? she prob won't have any over the next few days anyway...

I believe it means that her gall bladder is not up to par yet. See if her stools get blacker in a few days.

my ds(5) had this too, but it went back to normal within a day or so. it's weird isn't it!

Thanks, as long as it isn't anything serious & sorts itself in the next few days I guess it's ok... just worrying when you don't know quite what is going on..

My dd had this as a result of eating A LOT of melon!

Dear Eowyn,
DS turned a bit yellow recently and I looked up symptoms of jaundice to rule it out, some of the symptoms mentioned were, bitter taste in mouth, pale poo, nausea, loss of appetite, maybe you should ask your GP.

IME (in a former life as an NHS poo-analyser) pale coloured poo isn't a problem but can mean lots of fat is getting through undigested.
After a tummy bug the gut takes a while to get used to processing food properly again and anything that looks too much like hard work (fat is the hardest stuff to digest) is just passes along... and out.

I'd just avoid dairy for the next couple of days, or you could try the BRAT approach (banana, rice, apple and toast), which is soothing and easy to digest for recovering tummies.

Eowyn · 02/11/2006 15:51

I'll start reading up about that, thanks.

I'll do as you say MrsB & hope for improvement, there doesn't seem to be much about jaundice in children online & it looks a bit scary.
She has a pretty good diet, eats a lot more veg than me & not much fat...
will have to see what happens.

My Dd had pale poo almost white, the Gp told me its the sign of a bacteria in the tummy.
