Cold Hands And Feet In 12mnth Old

Becky is a bit under the weather - not sure if its teeth or as a reaction to a jab she had on tuesday, but is very clingy, warm to touch and sleeping a lot.

However her hands and feet are freezing.... the rest of her is warm.... should I be concerned?!

How old is she?

My lo (13 mths) sometimes has chilly hands and feet too. I usually just stick another jumper on him. Doesn't happen regularly.

If he'd only keep his socks on....

I think so long as her 'core' is warm (back of neck a good place to check they're warm) then probably ok so long as it doesn't go on too long.

Are they just cold to touch or do they look blue and blotchy.

If the hands and feet changed appearance I'd prob. contact my HV.

mooshy · 02/11/2006 15:28

Sometimes if temperature is really high the hands and feet are cold to touch so it might be worth checking her temp.Sometimes children actually shiver as their temp rises too so it can be a bit misleading.Temp is normall 37 or under.

tortoisestrappedtoarocket · 02/11/2006 15:29

Aww JARM I hope she is ok soon.
Ive seen on MN that the cold hands/feet can be a sign of meningitis so maybe get her checked out.
Its very cold today and my DD's hands are cold.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 02/11/2006 15:31

she is sleeping - again, so will check her temp when she wakes up - she is warm to touch, and very sleepy.

Could it be related to the men c top up jab she had on tuesday? ot just bad teething?

If you're worried JARM I'd take her back to the clinic. Especially if she carries on being lethargic (which i'm assuming isn't normal for her).

mooshy · 02/11/2006 15:41

I usually pop thermometer under armpit when ds is sleeping-might be easier when not wriggling about.I`m not sure what the half life of the jab is, but all 3 of mine had high temps after jabs and it was a couple of days later.I am a bit OTT though as dd1 had a febrile convulsion once and it frightened me so much i stip them all off for days after jabs now and poor things are probably freezing.

BonfireNemo1977 · 02/11/2006 15:44

there are bugs going around at the min and DD has been like this. She has ahd a temp aswell. Gp just told me to keep an eye on her. She is starting to come out other side today and its been since sat that she was unwell.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 02/11/2006 15:52

7up · 03/11/2006 07:33

i was going to post a message about cold hands/feet this morning and saw this one. my ds 2years has cold hands all day long,he doesnt get any calcium out of thefood he eats so wondering ifanyone knows if theres a link to him being constantly cold ?

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 03/11/2006 08:23

Well, we had an AWFUL night. She is burning hot one minute, freezing the next.

She went down about 7.30pm, was up at 9.45pm - back down at 11.15pm, back up at 3am, back down just after 4am and up again at 6.30am.

I just dont know what to do for the best, my doctors is crappy so will fob me off with the calpol routine, but I honestly am worried about her..... I have visions of going to my dads this afternoon and having to take her to the walk-in centre there.

If I knew for certain what was causing it, I would be ok, but it just seems so odd!

7up · 03/11/2006 16:46

how did the apt go?

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 03/11/2006 18:25

Poor little baby has tonsilitis (sp?)

Doctor has given her 5 day course of antibiotics.

She is a little brighter, but still not really with it!

I was going to post the exact same thing. dd is 18ths, seems ok in herself, a bit pale but eating ok having had an upset tummy earlier inthe week. Body warm, hands are freezing and feet very cold.

Sorry your dd isn't well jarm.

Going to take dds temp in a mo but I'm sure it's ok. After her febrile convulsion earlier in the year I'm hot on that if you pardon the pun.

7up · 03/11/2006 18:32

oh bless her, hope the antibiotics kick in quickly for her.

my eldest had recurring tonsilitis until he had them out at 2.9years. totally empathise with your worry for her, very painful for them and so horrible that you cant explain it to a little one.

speedy recovery

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 05/11/2006 11:28

Hi all

Thanks for the support! She seems to be coming out the other side now, was so worried about her on friday - she was drifting in and out of consiousness(sp?) and breathing really fast.

Got her sene to though, and the antibiotics seem to be helping, as well as the 4hrly doses of calpol.

Fingers crossed she is better this week and we can all rest a little!
