Have you had a proper thyroid screen? This sounds like classic underactive thyroid.

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 10/04/2015 20:47

well i had a number of blood tests, what is a 'proper thyroid screen'?

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 10/04/2015 20:48

oh, just googled, i think they did that

PeaceOfWildThings · 11/04/2015 18:44

Are you eating properly? If you cut down on what you eat drastically and then exercise as well, the body can store carbs as fats (I think that is the right way around) as a natural defence mechanism.

Small frequent meals, clean eating and plenty of water should help. Water retention can mess things up, so best to just not weigh yourself, or only weigh in once a month or so.

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 11/04/2015 18:57

(lol at my name change fail!!) i eat pretty well

chicken LOADS of salad at lunchtime, homecooked meals in the evening, i wish i could cut down, but i love my food

i drink gallons of water (about 4 or 5 pints of water during the day) - this isnt new, but maybe I should cut down?

PeaceOfWildThings · 11/04/2015 19:15

No...it could just be normal. It is pretty normal for weight to fluctuate and to put on a pound or so every few days is pretty easy for a lot of people. You could drink a pint of water and eat a normal sized meal and put a pound on.

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 11/04/2015 19:50

up and down would be fine, but its just up and up and up!

PeaceOfWildThings · 11/04/2015 19:55

So how much up and in how long?

Have you seen a doctor about it yet?

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 11/04/2015 20:14

i normally sit around the 12st 4 (i would rather be 11st 4!) but since january i've gone up to to 13st 10

i was under stress in January, and have started exercising... but no other changes...

i went to the drs and they did blood tests (i imagine for thyroid) but nothing came back

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 11/04/2015 20:18

i'm not pregnant - i react to a certain product when i am pregnant, and i tried it to see, no reaction! cheaper than a test

PeaceOfWildThings · 11/04/2015 20:22

Stress can have that kind of effect.

Do you feel generally tired usually, is exercise a constant or a few minutes out of an otherwise sedentary day?

Possible pregnancy?

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 11/04/2015 21:49

i'm normally tired, but i work about 1hr/1.5hrs away so out early and in late, i try and get to the gym twice a week, but other than that, no exercise (as hate it) (have SAH P)

def not preg!

i thought stress, which i would be ok with, but its still loading on and i've been pretty normal stress for month +?

PeaceOfWildThings · 14/04/2015 05:57

Yes, a stressful episode can have a huge effect on the body, ime. It can knock everything out of kilter. When you think about it, it can affect when a woman's period is, even stop it. A traumatic event or badly stressy situation can affect thyroid function.

If you are you living with an ongoing stressful situation then the best (only ime) way to deal with it is to find ways of looking at tour situaltt
situation as positively as possible while learning to not get stressed! (Counselling and mindfulness, NHS MH courses and CBT can help).

A month isn't long though.

Go back to the doc. Unexplained weight gain (or loss) should be further investigated.

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 14/04/2015 09:51

thanks for the posts guys - really apreciate you taking the time to help

CO2Neutral · 14/04/2015 09:54

This happened to me. It's like I hit 40 and my weight ballooned. I went from around 62kg to 72kg in the space of 2 years. I was very stressed/busy and it just crept up and up.

I am on a strict diet/exercise plan now and am down to 67kg but aiming for 64kg. It has been bloody hard!
