Fat pain - surely I can't be the only one?...

Just wondering if anyone else experiences this?

After my last child I have the unwelcome addition of a fat tyre around my ribs, no longer just my belly. It has slowly got worse now I'm over 40 and my chocolate v exercise balance has tipped the other way.

Anyhoo when I lean forward from my upper body (e.g. if I'm sitting up in bed reading and then lean forward to pull up the covers) I get a very uncomfortable pain and it takes a moment or two to recover from it. It is like my fat has no where to go so it gets pinched. It is always on my right side. Blush Sad

I'm 5'6" and 66kg, BMI of around 24 and at my tubbiest around my torso and thighs. My boobs are also inflating in front of my eyes.

Does anyone experience this? Is it just the consequences of getting fatter or something else?

I know what I need to do. Common sense really, exercise more and eat less calorific food, but would be interested to know if this us usual. I think I would be too embarrassed to mention it the doctor.

Thanks.

I am much fatter than you and no I do not get 'fat pain' Hmm

Are you just pinching your skin? If so, maybe move another way.

Or go to the doctors.

Jaimelechocolat · 09/04/2015 19:35

Thanks for your reply Saturday. Sorry, bad explaination. It is not the skin pinching but it feels like something on top of my ribs but below the skin. Coupled with my weight gain, that's how I got to my 'fat pain' conclusion. Poor choice of words maybe but I don't know how else to describe it.

I get this but always thought it was a spasm. Isn't it connected to floating ribs? I also have been diagnosed with ME and told it's part and parcel of this. Really hurts though. It kind of locks and spasms for a few minutes. Like the bad cramp you get in legs.

pinkje · 10/04/2015 20:01

66kg is not that heavy, what's that in stones?

Could be your gall bladder, that's on the right hand side.

cedricsneer · 10/04/2015 20:06

Stealth boast that your bmi is in the normal range?

I weigh significantly more than you (must be grotesque in your eyes) and don't get this.

BuggersMuddle · 10/04/2015 22:08

I have weight more and am shorter and don't think this is normal at all. It it's consistent, not an obvious injury and causing discomfort, I'd speak to the doc.

There are so many things that can cause pain in that area. Having a slightly tubby stomach at an otherwise healthy weight is unlikely to be one of them, I would have though.

eurochick · 10/04/2015 22:12

I'm almost exactly your height and weight and also have a bit of tummy podge post partum. I do not get this. It could be any number of things but I very much doubt that it is related to your size.

Preminstreltension · 10/04/2015 22:14

I get this. It's like a cramp in what I imagine to be my diaphragm. Feels like a wave of crampy pain underneath my ribs. It lasts a few seconds. I don't connect it with fat though!

It is new to me - last few months only. No idea what it is.

HellKitty · 10/04/2015 22:16

Is it just under your boobs? I get that sometimes but it's a pulled muscle - at least that's what I assume.

I'm voting hernia

Aussiemum78 · 11/04/2015 03:03

I get this! Usually when I've put on a few kg. it disappears when I lose a couple.

Feels like bruising/tender just under the ribs mainly rhs.

I've thought I should get checked for fatty liver...

Crossfitmyarse · 11/04/2015 03:03

I was going to say I know exactly what you mean then, until I saw that you weigh 66 kgs and have a BMI of 24.

Now I am truly Confused

I am just starting to feel the 'fat pain' you talk about and it's really pissing me off. But I am MUCH fatter than you and even when I was slimmer but still much fatter than you, I didn't have a spare tyre up around my ribs then.

VenusRising · 11/04/2015 03:05

OP Have an ultrasound to see if you have gallstones in your gall bladder.

Aussiemum78 · 11/04/2015 03:09

I did have separated abs after dd. No idea if they are still causing an issue?

AvaCrowder · 11/04/2015 03:23

When I was thin I used to have ribs sliding under each other. That hurt.

MythicalChicken · 11/04/2015 04:27

Yep, I get all sorts of odd pains since gaining weight. I was overweight in my twenties for a while after giving up smoking and now in my fifties I have suddenly put on a lot of weight. It's like I'm dragging my carcass around. My kneels hurt, my back hurts... I feel like I'm wearing a fat suit made if some heavy, dense material.

I also get the pain on the right, i think I know what you mean. And yes, only when I'm overweight. I was diagnosed with a very severe form of GERD and it disappeared after medication, but comes back when I am heavier and unhealthier.

Could it be GERD?

Jaimelechocolat · 11/04/2015 14:36

Thanks for your replies everyone, they have been very helpful. I didn't know what half the suggestions were so have been googling.

Millierose that sounds similar so it must be some sort of spasm. I don't have any other ME symptoms, good luck with your recovery.

If my ribs separated during pregnancy I didn't notice.

Adding my weight and BMI is definitely misleading. I thought I would give an idea of my build/size but it does not seem to reflect how I look. All I can say is sadly for me I am obviously overweight. I guess fat distribution is different for everyone.

Thanks Jaime.
Mine kind of locks for a few seconds (seems like longer) it is worse if I over extend my muscle. For example once happened while trying boots on. Really hurts and makes me swear.
I only know about the floating ribs because of the chappy on This Morning and thought wow! That's what I have.
If concerned maybe speak to your GP. I really don't think weight connected though I am a tad overweight.
