ive never every suffered with this before, but 4 months ago i had a routine check up which showed i had high blood pressure.

i had another today - my bllood pressure was 148/98.

what causes this?

im 43.
i recently lost over a stone in weight.
i had a marriage (of 25 years) break up and im now living alone, im probably drinking more wine but eating sensibly and exercising sensibly (i run 3 times a week for at least 30 mins)
i recently came off sertraline (anti depressant id been on for 3 years) imi not on any other medication except for omeprazole. i had a nissen fundoplication operation 18 months ago for severe acid reflux.

ive never ever suffered from high blood pressure even during pregnancy. ive no idea why its happening now or how to reduce it.

advice from anyone in the know appreciated.
thanks

Did the doctor suggest having a mointer for 24h? It's is high but not super high it could be that being at the dr pushes it up a bit. I suspected mine was high for years as had Cronc headaches I'm 39 the 24h showed average was 178/108 so now on meds and headaches have gone!

Sounds like you are keeping healthy as best you can sometimes there is no specific cuase. Did doctor say to get it checked every few months?

The NHS lists the following as factors which may increase blood pressure:
age – the risk of developing high blood pressure increases as you get older
a family history of high blood pressure (the condition seems to run in families)
being of African or Caribbean origin
a high amount of salt in your food
a lack of exercise
being overweight or obese
smoking
drinking large amounts of alcohol

High BP is also occasionally a secondary condition to other issues.
It can be controlled by medication.
Ask your doctor about the salt content in the Omeprazole you take as many antacids contain salt too.
