Hysteroscopy today

What should I expect?

I had another internal scan last week, where for the first time the word "fibroids" was mentioned, as was a small cyst, though I expect this was caused by me ovulating a few days before I went for the scan.

I have had heavy clotty painful periods for as long as I can remember, and over the last 18mths have needed to go to the loo more often for a wee, day and night, hence me making another trip to the doctors last year.

My CA125 was raised, so I have had loads of scans over the last year to rule out ovarian cancer.

Next up is todays Hysteroscopy, and they have spoken to me about a Mirena being fitted after it if I am in agreement.

What time is the procedure?

Are you having a GA or not?

You should be fine. It takes about 20 minutes but everyone is different.
All they do is insert the speculum ( but the more modern way is not to bother and just go in with the scope) and then have a quick look- they usually put a small amount of water in at the same time when they get into the uterus so they can see everything.

You might have some crampy period type pain for a few hours afterwards but otherwise you should be fine.

Thanks!

No GA, no pain relief needed apparently - they said to take paracetamol before I go. But I am guessing this is like being told to take paracetamol when you are in labour - pointless?

Ha- it's no way like being in labour!

I didn't take anything.

It's really not painful but it does depend on how tight your cervix is- mine was shut as I'm post meno so took a while to gain access - but still didn't actually hurt.

Good luck
