Small umbilical hernia

I had a small bulge in my belly button so went to the docs today.

He said I had a small umbilical hernia but said that I should leave it. All I have read said there is a risk of strangulation and being a born worrier now I am stressed.

I am also planning to ttc in a couple of months and doc said this wouldn't be a problem to leave the hernia and just mention to midwife if I get pg.

As a side note I do not trust the doctor I saw (I didn't realise he would be on today) as he told my dad he would be fine 2 days before he was admitted to hospital with bowel cancer. He looked shocking

I'd recommend getting a second opinion, especially given that you don't trust the Dr anyway.

I'm in no way medically trained but i thought that umbilical hernias are common and mostly harmless and self healing in babies but more serious in adults. A member of my extended family recently had an operation to correct one.

Dd2 has one that the consultant said would most likely heal itself but if it didn't they aren't overly concerned as due to the location it is only fat poking through, not organs.
That said, BIL recently had one fixed and I am being sent for a scan as my gp thinks I have a femoral hernia.

I have had one for 7-8 years post children. Also advised by a specialist that it doesn't need to be repaired as mine is large and open and not in danger of strangulation but I hate the horrible bulging tummy I now have so am thinking of seeking some more advice from a specialist about having it repaired. They are usually only problematic if there is a danger of sections of bowel etc being trapped and strangulating so it would be worth investigating if this was likely in your case.
