Worried - ovarian cyst and raised CA125

Hi,

I'm hoping for some reassurance! I had an ultrasound looking for fibroids, and the lovely sonographer was very chatty and said I had 3 large cysts in my left ovary, they would probably go away on their own, they would do a standard blood test and rescan in 8 weeks.

I got called into the GP this morning as the blood test results are back and the CA125 levels are elevated (should be 0-35 and mine are 48). She's referring me to a gynae and was talking about removing my ovary.... I was slightly in shock so didn't ask any questions!

Does anyone have any experience of this? From what I've read people often have a scan because of raised CA125, but I had mine first and they didn't seem to find anything worrying.

Does anyone know what happens from here?

Thanks in advance.

Hi iv just had a ca125 blood test and my doctor rang saying it was high and I might have a benign cyst or a cancer cyst and is sending me for a ultrasound all’s iv done is cry and worry every day since can’t eat can’t sleep I’m terrified what are the chances I have ovarian cancer

AllButterShortbread · 22/01/2018 13:16

What was the reason for having the blood test Sharon? And how old are you? Ovarian cancer is rare in women who’ve not been through the menopause. CA-125 levels can be raised for a few reasons, simply being on your period when the test was done can raise it. Endometriosis is another factor for raised levels. It’s good your gp is following up with a scan. Try not to read too much into the blood results Flowers

Iv been having abdomal pain say 2 a year feeling bloated I thought it was just gas so doctor put me on gas tablets and ibs tablets he checked my left side and was concerned send my wee sample of for protein and done a ca125 test which he said was high I’m 39yr I’m absolutely terrified my anxiety is through the roof

Sharonalex · 22/01/2018 13:30

He done the test on the 12th jan my period is due now

AllButterShortbread · 22/01/2018 13:41

Even a simple cyst can effect the result. Try not to worry. When is your scan?

Sharonalex · 22/01/2018 17:42

Thursday I’m suppose to be going to Tenerife on Thursday night with the girls and I’m saying I’m not going because I’m a nervous wreck over what I will find out I’m in a right state over this

Hi ladies. You know this is zombie thread don't you? Not that it matters particularly, but there are more up-to-date threads.

Wait until the ultrasound before making up your mind as to whether or not to go on holiday. I know it's really, really tough and of course you're worried but it may not be as bad as you fear.

Sharonalex · 22/01/2018 18:53

I’m worried because my doctor said when he rang me ur bloods were high on the test we done for ur ovaries so there could be a tumour there which is cancerous I nearly fell over and had a massive panick attack don’t understand why he done it over the phone so unproffectional no wonder I’m sick with worry not eating not sleeping

AllButterShortbread · 22/01/2018 20:10

Some doctors are very blunt. And I agree wait until you’ve had the scan before cancelling the holiday Flowers

Sharonalex · 22/01/2018 22:59

Do u think I’m worrying over nothing I’m terrified x

Thymeout · 23/01/2018 01:41

Any inflammation in the pelvic area can raise your levels. It doesn't have to be a cyst. Most ovarian cysts turn out to be benign and even a benign cyst can raise your Ca125 levels. It's a bit like finding a lump in your breast. Most of those are OK, but the thought that it might be cancer is enough to knock you off balance.

I'm not surprised you're in a state. But the good thing is you've only till Thurs to wait for your ultra-sound so, deep breaths, and positive thoughts. Lots of women have been in your position and it's all turned out fine. Fingers crossed you'll get good news on Thurs. Flowers

Sharonalex · 23/01/2018 13:13

Thank you so much for your advice and lovely support this had really helped me to calm down fingers crossed I’m ok x

TwitterQueen1 · 25/01/2018 08:03

Good luck with the test today Sharonalex. Thinking of you.

AllButterShortbread · 25/01/2018 13:32

Hope the scan went well @Sharonalex Flowers

Thanks everyone for thinking about me never slept a wink last night. Well went for my ultrasound this morning they found a large cyst on my left ovary the size of a small orange and a small one on my right ovary the consultant took me into a room she was lovely and asked about what’s been happening over the last 2 year told her iv had bloating and scramps periods are fine no bleeding inbetween no weight lose and no more pain since 3 weeks ago she done an internal and examined me which she was happy about the only thing she said was that on my right ovary there was a line through it which she is abit concerned about but said it could be that the cyst is ready to calapse so a few of the other consultants are going to discuss the scan pictures tomorrow and get back to me also they are doing another ca125 test to see if it’s still high and another blood test but not sure what that is think it’s a fibroid test but not sure she is ringing me tomorrow with my blood test fingers crossed it’s gone down I have to have a op to remove cysts and for people worrying about high ca125 test they told me a cyst can rise the levels so don’t worry I was the worst this week worrying no sleep it made me ill I’m just praying my right ovary is ok and all blood tests come back fine so I can have the op and get back to work and normality never been so worried in my entire life it’s so frightening but it’s not always what we seem so from now on I’m just thinking positive things and what will be will be x

AllButterShortbread · 25/01/2018 20:07

Sounds positive then. Are you going on your girls holiday?

Sharonalex · 25/01/2018 20:45

No as the consultant said she will be ringing me tomorrow with my results and I’d rather be home in case it’s not good news I’d be stressing and worrying to much on holiday and wouldn’t be fare on the other girls they understand and there will be more girlie holidays coming up like my 40th in July I’d rather be home with my family who are the most amazing supportive family I could ever wish for as I lost my mum dad and brother and we all are very close don’t know what I’d do without them xxx

Thymeout · 25/01/2018 23:07

I think that sounds quite promising. Don't worry if your Ca125 is the same or up a bit. It's not an exact science. It might stay high till they've removed the cysts.

Glad you've got a supportive family. That makes all the difference.

Sharonalex · 26/01/2018 00:12

Thank you il be updating tomorrow with more info thanks for you lovely support everyone x

AllButterShortbread · 29/01/2018 20:28

Did you get any feedback @Sharonalex?
