Underactive thyroid

I know this has been on loads of threads but I seem to be having a mental block!!

I have an underactive Thyroid. Kept having the annual blood tests and it kept coming back as within normal parameters ( with thyroxine)

Two years ago I read that for someone who has a "damaged" thyroid "normal" tsh levels are too high

Spoke to the dr and he agreed to up my thyroxine

Thought I'd be clever this year and ask for a copy of my results and the last two years...great idea but now I'm looking at it think wtaf!!!

No idea what this means...any explanations need to be idiot proof!!

2013 TSH 0.11 mU/L 0.35 - 5.0
2014 as above

2915 TSH 0.86 mU/L 0.35 - 5.0

I realise that the second bit is the parameters but is the first bit the bit I should be looking at and is it ok?

Told you it needed to be idiot proof!! Don't seem to have ts3 or 4 on this form...it wouldn't be disguised as anything else would it?

Any help gratefully received

The first two are below the ref range and then the 2015 one has increased and is now in range. If you feel well then it is fine but if you are having symptoms then I would also check things like iron, b12 and d3, but reLly you would also need t4 and t3 if possible. Someone on thyroxine is usually well with a tsh of around 1 or slightly lower.

Thanks elr

I don't feel right to be honest, quite often tired, very lethargic, I've put a stone on and my brain isn't very sharp

Easily explained by me being a greedy, lazy person...but could well be the thyroid as well Grin

So request those tests from dr? I've never asked for them, and I've had it since 1996!!!

Sorry elr

So .86 should be fine as it is under 1

But it might not be fine as it is higher now at .86 than it was at .11

Hi yes that's correct it's in range but as it has gone up quite a bit for you from .11 to .89 it's obviously causing symptoms I think I read somewhere that sometimes when you've been on thyroxine a while it can be sometimes not be as effective also in winter our tsh can be higher. Do you have antibodies? If so then being gluten free is recommended.
I have hashimotos and am gluten free I take 100mg on sun, mon, wed and fri and 75mg on tues, thurs and sat my tsh is 0.38 I feel well at this level. At 75mg a day my tsh was 1.89 and I felt unwell the extra 100mg per week has made a big difference so it may be that you only need an extra 25mg 2 or 3 times a week to feel better.
Def ask for the other tests too d3 and b12 is often a problem for thyroid patients, good luck.
