Bartholins marsupialisation - recovery?

Hello, been to a gynae appointment today, and they're going to marsupialise my Bartholins - currently a golf ball sized cyst (for a year or so), have had an abcess 4 years ago, and a previous pea-sized cyst. So, I'm quite pleased to have marsupialised (I think). But nervous about how it will affect sex of course, how it will feel to the touch.

Also, they will do it in day surgery under general, so not able to drive for 48 hours. But they didn't suggest I'll need time of work or anything.... and then I've come home and googled... so can I ask, if you've had this done, did you need to be off work at all? I'm really not wanting to... I don't want to be discussing it with anyone bar closest family/friends. I have a completely desk bound job if that makes it easier/harder - some googley people seem to have trouble sitting? Am also unimpressed at the idea of not running for a month, if that's the case - doc/nurse did not suggest this.

And the doc was the nicest doc I've come across ever - really reassuring and lovely. Wish I'd thought to ask about after op though...

I had this done and was off work for a week - more the effect of the painkillers and anaesthetic really. I don't run so can't comment on that! I'm glad I had it done - it put me back to "normal" with very minimal scarring and after a few weeks sex was fine (ky jelly).

Hmm, am a little shocked that the nurse didn't warn me of that when asking if I was available at short notice and discussing the ramifications of not driving for 48 hours (we live middle of nowhere). I'll need to at least warn work of that possibility. Dang.

Thanks, by the way, for replying, and glad to hear it was worth it - I suspect google of being full of the gone-wrongs rather than the gone-rights.

I had it done. I would say you need a week off to get over the anaesthetic and slight discomfort. That was years ago, and I've never had any problems since.

Hi

I've also had it done twice and also needed a week off work. Second time I was on Mat leave and had lots of problems but that was because I had just had a third degree tear on same bit 4 weeks before!!

First time was really straightforward and was just mild discomfort afterwards. I had it done in the Monday and was back at work following Monday. Hope this helps.x

P.s I didn't go into details I just said it was a gyno op and that's also what was on my sick note by the gp.x

Yup, another one here, who had the same op a loooong time ago. I was told to take a week off, and did - I felt ghastly on day 8 and wondered what was going on, but then felt fine from day 9 onwards. As others have said, the main effect is clearing the anaesthetic from the system.

I didn't actually work for me as the cysts came back and so I had to have it done again a year later. Successful second time and such a relief not to have any more problems.

Absolutely no problems in the bedroom afterwards, by the way. Not even a little discomfort. No side effects at all.

Best of luck

Thank you all! I cannot believe they did not mention needing a week off work!! They asked about if I could come in at short notice, and I said maybe - well not if I need a week off!! Didn't even mention the not-driving-for-48-hours till I asked. Thank you, can prepare better now, and thanks for the after-effects-reassurance. He doesn't want to come near at the moment anyway, and I'm feeling a bit crap about myself anyway :-(. Sooner it's done, the better.
