Forgetfulness, getting worse - I was late for work because I forgot about it.

I've got an awful memory - all my friends know that if I borrow something, they need to ask for it back because I'll forget about it, and I have to write down every single appointment in a diary or I'll forget. If I'm chatting with friends and we say, oh, let's meet for coffee on Friday, if I don't write it down I'll forget. I scramble to find 'the right word', and I seem to constantly have the nagging feeling that I'm supposed to be doing something but can't remember what.

Today I was due to work. I work the last Friday of every month, have done for a couple of years. I knew today was the last Friday, I know I work every last Friday, but I hadn't noted it in my diary so I didn't go. I got a phone call and turned up an hour late, and I have no explanation for them apart from "I forgot."

I'm starting to wonder if I really do just have a terrible memory or if there's actually something wrong. I can remember my friend's phone number from when we were both 15, I'm fab at trivia, I can remember a fair bit of a language I learned several years ago. I keep thinking of elderly people who remember their childhood but can't remember the day of the week. I'm 46. Sad

I know it's been ages, sorry, trying to get non-urgent GP appt here isn't terribly fast! I'm getting blood drawn tomorrow for testing pretty much everything except pregnancy, plus have a memory test booked for next week. The GP thinks it sounds like a biochemical problem, either thyroid, a vitamin deficiency or something else.

Horrrible having an awful memory, I couldn't even remember my postcode the other day and I have lived at the same address for 5 years!
Also my babys name Blush at the chemist a few months back.
I lose everything as well, forget bankcards at shops, loose big bunch of keys when I'm out, drives my husband mad.

Golly. So many people suffering from similar memory lapses to mine. It is only too easy to lose confidence and the worry makes it worse. I haven't slept normally for years and I am a real worrier. Yesterday I had an important card containing a cheque to post. I checked I had it as I approached the road where I was going to post it but later had no memory of doing so. Just realised I no longer had it. Names of family and well known people escape me. I continually recheck things. I am beginning to panic in case I forget my route in a car. Don't want to go to doctors as I really don't want to know I am heading for dementia. However, events from many years ago are crystal clear. I am sorry for you all but you have given me some comfort. I hope I remember to post this!
