Coil

After the birth of my DS last year, my contraceptive pill which was changed, because apparently the brand of pill I had been on for years was not produced anymore. I have been on a diet since DS's birth to which I have remained the same, no matter how much I have dieted, I have bad headaches, my breasts are massive and sore (they are bigger than when I was pg!), I have to wash my hair twice a day and I am always spotty, and I have been suffering depression and sob uncontrollably for no reason, all of which I have now put down to my change of pill (after twelve months) after much research on the internet. I am off to see my GP tomorrow and want to discuss the coil, but I just wondered whether anyone else went from pill to coil and what the transition was like.

i was on the pill for years..came off it to have DD and decided not to go back on it as storng family history of DVT ...so had a mirena coil

i know a lot of people are not keen..but it has worked like a charm for me

periods so light

no pmt

no side effects after initial spotting & bleeding

and no remembering to take anything!

i have suffered depression in the past, but it has not recurred and i am really pleased i went for the coil.

sounds like you may have a hormonal imbalance re spots, greasy hair, headaches & sore boobs...needs addressing too.

i hope it works for you if you go for it!

i also think your depression needs discussing with the doc as a year of it is not good..

How about asking for a blood test to check your hormone levels and a thyroid test.

I'm going for both tomorrow......

i went from the pill to the coil (non hormonal one). for me the transition was fine, apart from being uncomfortable for a day or so after it was put in. periods longer but not too bad.

Which pill are you on? Your symptoms are exactly like those of mirena coil sufferers. I think if you are on a progesterone only pill that would explain away your problems. (expatinscotland is the resident expert on these matters and will tell you much more).
Whatever you do dont let your doc persuade you to have a mirena as if you are sensitve to progesterone you will have the same probs but worse!
Good luck. I hope you get sorted.

Thank you. I am on Microgynon 30 and after doing research on the net have discovered that my symptoms are the same as many others on the same pill, including depression. I have just become preogressively worse, and only been depressed over the last six weeks or so. I want to go on a non-hormonal coil too, because I just want this sorted once and for all and don't think a switch in pill will help. I just want to come off the pill altogether, lose some weight and see how I feel.

I have had a non hormonal coil twice, once before dd and once after. V good...no bside effects apart from being slightly uncomfortable to fit....but after childbirth it realy, really is NOTHING to be scared of!! Al the doctors who dealt with me said they couldn't understand why more women didn't take this option.

Overtiredmum · 30/10/2006 20:49

But because its non-hormone, I shouldn't suffer any of the side effects I am getting at the moment? TBH it has to be better than what is happening now, I am surprised my DH hasn't divorced me by now I never thought for one minute the pill could affect me this way, and the weight issue has been a real factor for me over the passed few months, and only realised it could be the pill once I realised that I only lost weight when I was on my 7 day monthly break, and then when I restarted I gained everything that I had lost.

go for it otm, i was on microgynon too and though didn't suffer too much with any side effects feel much better having changed over.

I was on Eygonon for years, which was fabulous for me, am definitely gonna come off. I need to shift this extra weight as I have never been so big (apart from being pg).
