I took her to the doctors last week, they said she has catarrh in her throat and she is very bunged up. Her chest is clear. The doc gave me some saline nose drops to give her which haven't helped at all. She is so restless, i don't know how to help her. Some advice please?

Prop some big books under her cot so it's raised up a little for sleeping. I think your dd is still too young for using Vicks chest rub etc, but my HV said you can dilute it.

Most chemists should sell "Snufflebabe" or an equivalent which is suitable from 3 months. If you dilute it with vaseline so it's not so powerful, then you could rub it on her chest. If you're breastfeeding then rub it on your boob close to where her nose will be so she's a bit clearer for feeding. If you're bottle feeding then maybe on your hand?

Keep her upright as much as possible - in a bouncy chair/carseat rather than lying down. She might need to nap being held by you - arm ache beckons

Umm.. will keep thinking. All the best

I would try and keep her room as moist and humid as possible. You can buy humidifiers in Argos if you want to make the investment now (we have used ours a lot over the years!) If you have central heating put a bowl of water on the floor by the radiator and soak a towel in it then drape over the radiator and into the bowl, with radiator on - keeps the room moist. But as she's only 8 weeks watch she doesn't get too hot.

Agree with MofS about keeping her upright or raised as much as possible. Hope she feels better soon - my ds2 had a terrible cold at 2 weeks old - it was quite scary and distressing, you have my sympathy.

Try steam ( shut bathroom door run hot tap ) or stand near boiling kettle

When my ds was about 7-8 weeks old he developed a really bad cough and dr prescribed salbutamol.

Just kept windows open/steamed him and he was fine. The next year about the same time it happened again.

Never did give him the salbutamol
