Tonsillitis diagnosis by dentist?

I'm just looking for some advice. I've had a very sore throat for 4 days now, feels like I'm swallowing glass, swollen glands and very dry mouth. I also have some pain in my lower back teeth and ear.

My GP is not great and they can't see me until next week, I've really tried to appeal to them as I'm in a lot of pain, even after taking iburprofen, paracetomol and thyrozets. They suggested I call th dentist if it's urgent.

Can a dentist diagnose this? I don't want to waste their time and or make a fool of myself by going to them. However I'm desperate as I have a critical appointment tomorrow and I am not sleeping etc.

No , wouldn't have thought a dentist would be happy to treat this. You need a GP appt. can you ring back and say it's urgent? If not wait until 630 and ring the OOH service.

Well you did mention tooth pain which would not come under gp and could cause earache. Can you swallow? Try a pharmacist for stronger antibacterial throat spray (corvonia do one ) and anti inflammatory painkillers.

Your tonsillitis may be being caused by your wisdom teeth coming through, (if you are the right age etc) in which case dentist can prescribe antibiotics and organise extraction of wisdom teeth if they are the problem, as they often are. So the gp surgery may not be so off beat as it initially appears.

That sounds like me when I had tonsillitis. I can't believe your gp suggested going somewhere else even if it's to the dentist.

You'll need antibiotics.
