I have been noticing lately that my hands shake sometimes and I can't control it. It happened at ds1's preschool singalong a few weeks ago, it was quite embarrassing trying to do the actions, I couldn't control the shaking. It's not violent shaking, just trembling, but it is weird. It happened again yesterday afternoon, I was trying to read a magazine and noticed my hands were shaking. Now I have a little involuntary twitch in my right eyelid. I have had two fairly major panic attacks in the last two days, both in the evening, even though I am on amytriptyline to control anxiety. I don't panic emotionally with panic attacks now because I know what they are IYSWIM, but I did have all the physical symptoms - tight chest, can't get a full breath, dizzy etc. I have high blood pressure too (doctor took it last week when I went in to talk about my ADs), it was 165/102. Should I be worried about this?

Thanks for responding everyone. It probably is just anxiety at the root of it again. I never had the shakes/twitches before though, it is unnerving.

Greensleeves - I suffer ffrom shaking. I think I pinned it down to anxiety (that I didnt notice I was getting at that moment in time), and too much or too little sugar (sorry, I cant remember which!) I get a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach (like being on a swing) and my hands start quivering... Its got heaps better, now my depression/panic/anxiety is getting better, also, my diet is better now. ((hugs))

Greeny

It is not high blood pressure.

I have a heart condition, I have to take BP tablets and Aspirin every day.

Last year I stopped taking them, not a concious decision, forgot for a few days, felt great so didn't bother.

Went to the GP for summat else and he took BP.

When he had finished looking at me in that dissapointed manner, I told him " but but but I feel great.

To which he replied, it is symptomless, that it is why it is known at the silent killer.

Take them every day now.

So what I am saying is if you have symptoms it is not likely to be BP.

Hope you feel better soon.

BTW you do do not come across as a hypochondriac, and that is why MN are here.

Greensleeves · 29/10/2006 12:41

I do have high blood pressure as well though, 165/102, and no obvious reason for it

I feel worse again now, cold all over, and my headache is agony, I feel really sick, tight chest, weak and dizzy and spaced-out, pulse racing, and I keep crying and feeling desperately sad for no reason.

I am so fucking sick of this weird crap happening to me, there is no reason for it, I just want to feel normal.

Sorry to post a vaguely health-related sob-story yet AGAIN. I just can't cope tonight

GS, you may have a virus, I really don't know tbh.

Are you panicking right now? I think you know what to do if so. Do the deep breathling

I find I get PAs just by thinking about being ill, I'm going to die etc.

peegeeweegeeWITCH · 29/10/2006 20:37

Oh greensleaves, it sounds like you are having some sort of anxiety disorder/panic attack going on...

Regarding the blood test - when I was diagnosed with my high blood pressure (160/90) the doc ordered blood tests which were something to do with kidney function. For some reason kidneys are linked to high bp...
My GP said the kidney thing is very very rare, but they have to rule it out before they can prescribe blood pressure meds...

Could you ask for different anxiety medication, if you feel that the amytripsomething is not working any more...

Hope you feel better soon

xx

Greeny, I too thinks it sounds like anxiety. The eyelid flickering is a common symptom of stress. It would be wise to get it checked out thought as well as to suggest that you don't think you anxiety is being controlled properly.

My sympathy. I live with anxiety symptoms too these days. Can hardly remember what being 'me' felt like before my stomach was in a vice most of the time. Must have been nice!! There seem to be lots of us suffering similarly. How crap!!

Greensleeves · 29/10/2006 20:45

It is crap I had forgotten how crap.

Thanks for responding. I have my blood tests tomorrow so it's a start.

I just feel rock-bottom tonight. I haven't felt this bad for years.

Greeny

I'm really sorry, I wish I could advise health-wise, I can't but I'm here.

Stress, trauma and anxiety have incredibly powerful effects on the body. You have been through - and come through - so very much.

Big, big hug. Get yourself checked out. I'm sure it's all going to be alright.

foundintranslation · 29/10/2006 21:08

(not meant in a dismissive way, in case it reads like that. I just want to give you a big big hug and lots of reassurance)

skanger · 29/10/2006 21:45

i'm new on MN and have just read your threadi really hope everything improves for you-will say a little prayer and good luck with the blood tests

BlackMagicMiaou · 29/10/2006 21:50

Greeny I think it's often difficult for people who have not suffered from anxiety or panic attacks to understand how debilitating and upsetting it can be. I had ME as a teenager and did suffer a few panic attacks at one point - nothing like on the scale you are on and I was able to control them via hypnosis - but I really feel for you and your desire to feel "normal".

((((hugs)))) for tonight and tomorrow

Mercy · 30/10/2006 19:23

Greensleeves, how are you today?

Mercy · 30/10/2006 22:19

bump

I know you are around!

skanger · 30/10/2006 22:58

mercy-like you i was wondering how greensleeves got on today

skanger · 31/10/2006 08:57

i'm going to stick my neck out here-and i'll probably get it chopped off!but is it not a little rude not to let people know how you got on with dr appointment, especially as there was so much concern shown .I suppose ther is a good reason and apologize if it seems i'm sticking an unwanted beak in-but i did say a prayer that you'd be ok

Greensleeves · 31/10/2006 09:12

I'm very sorry, I didn't see anyone had asked - of course I would have responded if I had!!

Thanks for asking - I haven't seen the doctor yet, my appt isn't for another week and a half. The appt yesterday was with the nurse, to do the blood tests I mentioned. The doctor wants to se me when the results are back.

Sorry if you think I was rude, skanger. I'm very grateful for all the kindness shown on this thread, I really am.

i'm sorry for being a bit snappy-im delighted that you replied and i know this must be a v.worrying time.i'll keep up the prayers-hope that doesnt offend

missymoosal · 31/10/2006 09:34

Greensleves
If your dr app isn't for another week I suggest you get another BP check beforehand.
To have a bottom figure of 100+ is not good regardless of the cause!
Feel the advice about high BP having little to no symptoms is rather misleading.
It's true that for a % of people you can have a dangerously high BP and be unaware but there are many people who do have symptoms aswell.
With some there is an element of 'white coat' syndrome' so as someone else suggested you an buy your own and check it in a more relaxed environment.
It is best to check it 3-4 times a day at the same times of the day to obtain a pattern.
If you record them in a chart this will be very useful for your GP also.
If your readings are consistantly high then you need to see gp sooner than next booked appointment.
If they are within 'normal' range at least that will give you peace of mind and one less thing to worry about.
Panic attacks are dreadful I have been having them since July when I had to be ventilated for a severe asthma attack. It is very difficult to control and I am overwhelmed with feelings that I am going to die.
I have been a nurse for 22 yrs and all my experience of seeing people in theses situations still left be woefully prepared when it happened to me.
Don't be so hard on yourself just keep talking there are plenty of us who understand.

missymoosal · 31/10/2006 19:07

Gsleeves are you ok?? How has today been me I'm hiding from the trick or treaters!!!

Dottydot · 31/10/2006 19:32

Hi - only me - just found this thread and wanted to say hello. I occasionally get a twitchy eyelid, or a twitch in one of my fingers - always when I'm knackered and stressed. Good luck with the blood tests and let us know how you get on. You're definitely not a hypochondriac and I'm one for grumbling away at my health stuff (don't even get me started on my endoscopy tomorrow!!) so you're in good company!

earlysbird · 31/10/2006 20:31

Dottydot I get the twitchy eyelid when over-tired/stressed too, DH takes the mick mercilessly, I thought I was a bit weird but I'm glad to see I'm not! Hope you are ok greensleeves, DH has high BP is on ace inhibitors now, working wonders.
