Cervix issues - biopsies taken today

I'm interested in hearing other people's stories s and experiences as I'm going to share my own!

In 2011, I underwent laser treatment and a biopsy was taken after an abnormal smear result. The result of the biopsy came back non cancerous and every annual smear I've had since came back clear.

In 2012 the nurse that performed my smear said I had what looked like a polyp on the cervix or what might have been the laser treatment she could see. She advised me to get it checked out by gp.

I didn't go to the gp until the end of last year (annual smears have been clear) because I started to experience spotting mid cycle after a jog and occasionally after intercourse.

Gp referred me to gynaecology after saying it seemed to bleed easily but there didn't seem to be a polyp.

Finally had the appointment today. Two biopsies were taken from the top and bottom of cervix and the doctor said the cervix was very vascular.

Not sure if I should be worried.....

Any advice and or, stories on personal experiences on way similar nature would be much appreciated!

I always get told my cervix looks sore/bloody and it always bleeds. Never had an abnormal smear but have an ectropian. It seems to be getting worse too or nurses rougher as it bleeds more with each smear (had three). It's harmless and extremely common. Take heart that your smears are normal so it's probably this, especially if you've been on the pill. They probably did biopsies to err on the side of caution given previous abnormal smear.

Hi BigPawsBroon
What's an ectropian?

Thanks for your reply. You are right in that I should not worry too much at the moment. All will be revealed when the results are in.

I wonder if my cervix is now vascular due to the layer treatment I underwent years ago. It's obviously better to intervene when there are cell changes but that doesn't mean it leaves you with a perfectly healed cervix I suppose!?

Laser treatment, rather than layer!

An ectropian is sort of a word for a vascular cervix! Many women on the pill have the cells outside their womb (which bleed easily) just protruding out of their cervix slightly. So it looks red and bleeds a bit.

Oh forgot to say I'm not on the pill, haven't been for about a decade, maybe longer.
Gp said it seemed to bleed easily.

Thanks Smile
